June 2024 Life Update and Progress Report

Hi there! It’s been a very hard few months but me and my partner are in a better place in our lives that we can pick production on Repurpose Part 3! Yaaaayyy!!!

In case you are not in the know I’ll summarize the events that happened within the last few months. If not or you dont want to feel sad just skip this section and head straight into the actual progress report.

CW: death, grieving, abuse, depression,

-February: 1st Anniversary of my brother’s passing and 14th anniversary of my birth mom’s passing. So, just very depressing and sad most days. 

-March: Went to a party back in Texas and was forced to be within the same vicinity as my sister that emotionally and physically abused me as a child and was told that I needed to “forgive her and be a family again”. Which was very traumatizing and not fun.

-April: My partner’s father’s health plummeted and he had to deal with that. A week later my own father’s in Mexico health took a turn for the worse so I had to fly down there. Learn my aunts have been abusing him and mistreating because they want whatever is left of his money and refused to help me and my sister with trying to save my dad. All the while im a fish out water in Mexico as I don’t speak the language fluently and can’t be of much help. I leave Mexico REASURED that my dad would survive only for a week later my father passed. And to end it off an uncle STOLE the car I was supposed to inherit and won't give it back unless I pay him for “repairs”. 

-May: spend it depressed, traumatized, grieving my loss. Unable to leave bed most days and can’t even draw or write. MORE FAMILY DRAMA! MORE TRAUMA AND DEPRESSION!!

-Early June: Spent some time in Texas with my aunt and cousins to heal.

ANYWAY with all that disclosed you can see why little progress was made in spring… Hahahaha…

Onto the report itself!

Art

Even tho I spent half the month away from work I hit the ground running once I felt able enough to pick up my tasks on production! One of the new things that will come to Part 3 is the return of certain character’s alternate outfits. Namely, Noel, DJ Roadkill, and Rosita. This means I have to draw the outfit on sprites that didn’t previously have it! 

I also added some more expressions to certain characters and 9 placeholder cgs for flashback scenes. The flashback illustrations are as about as rough and ugly as you see here so I just picked the cleanest one to show what I’m looking at the majority of the time I’m programming scenes. They’ll get cleaned up and finalized later. 

Writing

The script is ALMOST complete. Like, on the very verge as I’m typing this. Sam has been cranking out scenes practically every day. So much so that I have gotten a head start on editing and programming already-polished scenes into the game itself! The current word count for Part 3 is 75K but will most likely be closer to 100K words.

Programming

I’ve finalized roughly 15K words from Part 3’s script into the game! It took me about a week to do so. I’d say that’s 45-60 minutes of gameplay if you exhaust all your options. Going to start polishing and adding more scenes on the coming Monday.

Final Words

I’m a little sad my partner and I couldn’t get Part 3 finished before summer began. But given all the hardship we’ve been facing it shouldn’t come as surprising… Like we learned in Kalei’s route we have to be kind to ourselves even if we don’t meet expectations. There's no guarantee yet but I do hope to have part 3 complete during fall at the soonest but as we’ve seen sometimes life gets in the way.
