[FFXV Rural AU] Noctis Lucis Caelum

Riding off my previous post on this AU, here's some more info, this time about NOCTIS!!

Starting off, Noctis is assigned female at birth. I haven't decided on what his deadname should be and usually I tend to avoid sharing trans characters' deadnames because I understand that can be an area of discomfort for some. Though in the fanfic I may someday write, I do actually want to include giving Noctis a deadname. Because what I like to explore is how a character feels about a name and when they decide to choose their own name, explore how that comes about and show the change that happens when going by your chosen name over your dead one.

(For the purposes of this lore explanation, he is going to be referred to by his chosen name, Noctis, pronouns will also reflect his gender as he is fully matured, but I will reference to points where he identified as female before his transition).

He grew up living with and being raised by his father for the majority of his early life, after his parents divorced his mother was absent up until Noctis was starting to go to school. He experienced two very different parenting styles: Regis often could be overbearing but he steered Noctis towards being responsible; Aulea was the chill and laid-back parent who got Noctis into trouble but worked his self-confidence up. Aulea somewhat turned Noctis against his father to act out more, while Regis made sure that Noctis steered clear of bad influences.

Noctis would make close friends with Prompto, Nabi, Ignis, and Gladio, as well as others like Lunafreya and Cindy (these two would become long-distance friends).

By middle school, Noctis leaned heavily into the punk/emo aesthetic, and even started to try out the name "Noctis" (he made an edgy anime OC who was kinda a self insert only he's a dude named Noctis, totally not some self internalized notion of gender going on here, nope) angsting hard and becoming more rebellious, listening to trashy pop and rock music, and starting to figure out that he had developing crushes on two of his friends: Ignis and Prompto.

When rumor spread that Ignis was dating a girl from his science class, Noctis felt compelled to try and "win him over" by dressing overly girly in an attempt to catch his eye. Only come to find that Ignis never was dating that girl in his class... And frankly, he doesn't see much interest in dating girls at all.

Resolved that they were likely never to make it long-term, Noctis tried to let the crush go and just move on (still would bite him later down the line).

Near the end of middle school, Noctis would finally put serious thought into some confusing feelings he had been having and decided that maybe he wanted to actually be a boy. Though when trying to talk to his father about it, Regis was not receptive at all to it and ultimately threw Noctis into a spiral of depression. While his friends were in major support, he found himself struggling to just accept that he ought to stay as he is. It all came to a head in an attempt on Noctis's part to run away, but being caught and brought back, he had a full breakdown and it nailed some sense into Regis.

Noctis would go on to actually transition by the start of high school and all throughout it. He reaches a level of punk that is now actually being a rebel and going out to sneak past curfew, explore places that he shouldn't be at, doing the usual delinquent activities, and still being a big brat all through it.

Though, despite the struggle and conflict, he does eventually make it through high school with some impressive marks on his report cards–in no short part thanks to Ignis's influence on him.

Noctis and Prompto go on to move in together into an apartment while they share rent which is paid by their part-time jobs while they go to community college together. He, Prompto, and Ignis start a polyamorous relationship together (originally starting near the end of high school and blooming in the freshman year of college). It goes well for the three of them and at the end of the 2nd spring semester, Noctis is accidentally knocked up by Ignis.

And so goes the story, the three move in together properly and figure out how to navigate being a throuple with a baby together.
