Roadmap July 2024

Hello everyone,

Welcome to our latest roadmap update! Here, we'll share the current state of our upcoming projects, explain why some mods got canceled, and give you some teasers for the future.

Behind the Scenes at Vanilla Expanded

At Vanilla Expanded, we've got a few different pipelines, each with its own focus. I handle all the art and mod designs, but we've got different folks doing code, working on different themes.

Vehicles Pipeline

This one is mostly handled by me, Smash Phil, and sometimes xrushha for XML and Taranchuk for extra C# mechanics. It's pretty much its own thing, separate from the rest of VE.

Anomaly Pipeline

This is a newer pipeline that we're working on "on the side" so it doesn't delay our main projects. It's all about different anomalies within the game.

Overhaul and Content Pipelines

We've got two main pipelines here: Major Overhaul Mods and Smaller Content Mods.

These projects involve the whole team, but each member has their own specialty. Our awesome team includes:

Cancelled and On-Hold Mods

With Legodude17 moving on from modding, we've had to cancel the Animat psycaster path mod and put Diplomacy Expanded on hold. We're figuring out if we can continue these projects without losing our usual polish and quality.

I'm with you, man. I've got so many tiny little mods to do this or that which I'm hoping that VE: Health will smooth things out a lot more and reduce bloat. There's so many ways they can go with it too. They could expand the doctor AI, drug production, surgery, and now that i think about it, even prosthetics.

The ones I'm most excited for are Medieval 2 (I really miss the medieval VE mods!) and Old War Vehicles. Can't wait for them to come out!

NoOOOOOoooOOOOOoooo! Animat psycaster path was something I was really looking forward to. I understand though, modding is an intense hobby. Legodude17 will definitely be missed but their contributions will continue on!

As for cobblestone walls, you might want to take a look at Helixien's "ReBuild: Doors and Corners" mod. (That is, if you are open to mods other than the vanilla expansion series). It's a nice, clean mod that also works well with Oskar's series. (Although the wooden floor still doesn't support different preset colours, and the doors overwrite the visual variety of VFE Architect).

Is it weird that the Medieval and Vikings merger is the mod I'm looking forward to the most? I miss having wine, honey, and cobblestone walls.

Yeah, and I also want to add more stuff to medical furniture. Beds that fold into a carry-able pack, hemogen drips etc

I am glad to read that you are not giving up on Vanilla Diplomacy Expanded ... yet. I was very much looking forward to it, as I feel it covers one of the most underdeveloped parts of Rimworld at the moment, and therefore has the most potential for improvement. Exploration is definitely the second part of the game that deserves attention and I am very happy to see it progressing well. (In general, I think your list of planned mods is very strong.) As for health: As you have decided to update the existing health module to 1.5 (Thank you! I immediately upgraded my hospital with a drip), do you plan to integrate its content into the upcoming VHE? The leaner my mod list, the better, I guess. Not that I have any hopes of getting my load times under 7 minutes again...

I am hoping that the Animat psycaster mod will be revived. That (alongside Diplomacy Expanded) was the mod I was most eagerly awaiting.

I hope that Diplomacy Expanded will come out eventually. It sounds like such a great mod, and I was waiting for it the most.

Just wanted to take the time to say that aspirations expanded was a very good idea done well, good job! That mod has really given the game some direction in the midgame.

Looking forward to Health Expanded the most for a decent time now, it's the part of the game which is either brutally complex or jokingly easy when modded, I'm looking forward to Vanilla Expanded quality here!

you always know when a vanilla expanded mod is close to release when a bunch of sargs mods update and they all have the change notes that are saying added compat for the mod lol, great stuff btw. is there any info on what archotech expanded is about, i havent seen any info on it. :3

We have no shortage of xml and C# people. We only hire people who can however make excellent mods already. Training someone in making mods would take too much of our time, so it's easier to just onboard an already experienced modder.

Shame about diplomacy, is an area of the game that could use improvement. Hope Legodude returns someday but I guess life can easily get in the way.

I feel like diplomacy expanded has been at the end of the roadmap for years now and keeps getting pushed back every time there's a new roadmap released. Is there a specific plan for this one, or is it more just a general concept in someone's mind?
