Hey patrons,
It's been a rough week in a couple of ways...

...but I'm really happy with how these postcards came out! I've been inspired by Mateusz Urbanowicz's watercolor series, Tokyo at Night, for a long time. (He even has YouTube videos of his painting process!) So it was a fun treat to find the right colors for "teal house in deep shadow" and "stucco that's partially lit by a window or porch light next door."
Before I called this postcard finished, I took a digital photo and added a "noir" filter to make it black and white. At this point, the side of the house didn't look dark enough. I wanted me and Shoulder Angel to really be framed in the light from the back door.

So I added some purple to the side of the house and took another photo.

That's when I called it done.
In this next postcard, I feel like I really nailed the common Portland lighting combo of bright and cloudy.

This is the third time I've drawn Belmont Market, first in 2012...
and again in 2021, after they'd repainted.

A note to early-career artists: NAME YOUR FILES VERY CLEARLY, otherwise 13 years later you're going to wonder why you can't find the work you're looking for by searching "Belmont" or "Market" or "sign" or...
Thanks, as always, for supporting me on Patreon! Happy Easter/Passover/Spring.
