Omigosh it's finished! Book 1, pages 164-165

Hi patrons! I can't even express how satisfying it is for me to see this page in person, so I hope you feel the same way!

This is what the ink wash looks like by itself:

For the last month, I've been picturing how cool it will look with the different color filters. For the last week, I've been excited for the time when I lasso the area that's supposed to be sepia, open the blue color adjustment layer, and hit delete! But it turns out that's not how to do that, so if you triumphantly hit "Delete," nothing will happen. Naomi to the rescue. She showed me how, and thoughtfully let me push the button!

This is definitely the biggest Photoshop file I've ever worked on. I forgot to count how many layers of sketches, reference photos, and half-assed perspective grids are in this file. Because as soon as Photoshop finished saving, I thanked it for not crashing, and closed it!

Barry drew the actual word balloons and the arrows pointing between the cupola and gazebo. I really like how he shaped the arrow to suggest depth! Having the semi-transparent word balloon tails was a cool idea, too.

This many hours of drawing was brought to you by a couple of really good audiobooks (Under the Udala Trees, Parable of the Sower, and the first half of Passing) and I'm not sure how many podcast episodes. A recent favorite was Michael Hobbes' guest appearance on The War on Cars:

Thanks, as always, for supporting me on Patreon! It means a lot that I can take the time it takes to get a page like this just right.
