Valentine's Day is just around the corner, and with it Lana's Vault approaches! I want to give everyone a quick rundown of what Lana's Vault will include. There are a lot of spells and features in the guide that carry similar themes, so when you get it, please keep that in mind and forgive any thematic overlap between features (such as a lot of spells that allow for luck-based coin flips or percentile dice and such).
Fate/Fortune Legacy Traits
One thing we want to include in guides going forward are "general" Legacy Trait lists - each guide we release will likely come with Legacy Traits that can be chosen based on the GM's discretion, which ties into a greater theme. In this case, the book has several that are based on fate, fortune, and temptation and can be taken if the GM feels they are appropriate. Another example of this in the future will be Zagalhta's Exolunar Collection, having generic space-based ones that can help build characters adapted to those settings.
16 Subraces
The book contains subraces for the capy'hado, elf, enáretos, heralus, flooflin, framebilt, hádislin, halfling, hanyou, human, kits'adria, merfolk, nephilim, pétratára, primordial and vanquish. There's a relatively even split between luck/fortune-based subraces and lust/temptation/love-based subraces.
16 Subclasses
There isn't much to say except that there is a subclass in this guide for every class we work with, including the inscriptor, favored soul, and sword saint. They carry the same sort of themes you'd expect and have a relatively even split between themes. I would've liked to get more art done for the subclass section of this book, but this book basically had a one-month turnaround for 50+ pages, so budget and time constraints were what they were. I do love the art we got done though!
11 New Spells
There are 11 new spells included, all of which fall under the spell group "Arts of Value" and are tied back to Lana one way or another. These can be used as any spell group can be for classes that can pick spell groups for various effects (books like this should prove to be where using spell group specializations really shines since we can introduce niche groups like this).
The book is also padded with some older spells from Lyre's Guide, meant to make looking them up easier - I originally intended to include ALL mentioned spells from the 5.19 material, but it became quickly obvious this would bloat the book. Regardless, in the future, we will likely continue to re-include relevant spells like this so first-time readers who don't know 5.19 well won't be totally lost.
8 NPCs
Among the 8 NPCs in the book, a couple stand out and are worth noting -
The Aspect of Lana is as much a mini-game as she is a monster. Her stat block presents the use of luck-based mechanics that a GM should be very careful to look over before using, as they create a push and pull between her and other players that can be very fun if implemented right, but is a lot of text to read on the fly.
The guide contains a DGR, DGR 020 - EROSPOINT, and also introduces "malfunction" conditions (conditions that bypass a construct's immunities), which will be expanded on more in Zagalhta's book. I look forward to using these splash books to gradually introduce more DGRs to fill out the numbers the main books don't have room for. I can basically promise all future splash books will have DGRs in them.
6 Items
Among the items here are seven new elixirs, an artifact of Lana, and the saint relic for the Way of Besheth. It also contains a version of DMS's Serpent of Lust that has been adapted for regular 5.19th Edition D&D.
Phantom Third, a Dice Game
This simple dice game requires two d6s and a d12, and is basically a bluffing game. The end results are determined by multiplying the d12 result with a hidden d6 result, but the real game is in trying to bluff out opponents into folding or over-committing to their bets. It emulates how games like poker go. It's very quick to pick up; playtesting has shown that no one has had an issue learning it immediately, and it can be used in games when betting/games like this would be suitable.
Future Splash Books
This has been a great experiment! We will definitely keep doing these on a three-month schedule, and with that amount of prep time, we're open to these getting bigger and better each time~! Please remember that $100+ and $250+ patrons can influence the content, and we'll have ongoing subscription goals on the Twitch channel to add content! If these do very well over 2025, we're also open to making a "compilation" for them each year, which will add more to each theme, and trying to do a proper print run for those compilations.
