When Damon said to Rose, "Lets get you home" Damon wasn't just talking about his house. He took her to HER home.

Not almost tears whenever i watch this episode I cry buckets of tears it’s so so emotional. Damon gave her a beautiful death now that’s something a pure soul can do and this shows us Damon isn’t as evil as he thinks he is. Ian acted so freaking well here. This scene is one of the most favourite and best scenes of the show for sure. It’s a fan favourite. It also shows us he misses being human and he can’t be what other ppl want him to be and mainly what Elena wants him to be. He thinks he can only do and be evil and has nothing good in him that he can’t change. It’s really sad. Your face when they kissed was hilarious haha get off each other 🤣🤣 btw I hate Jules can’t stand her.

both lauren cohan and ian somerhalder did an amazing job establishing a connection between their characters, and between the characters and audience, in such a short amount of episodes. the way they both conveyed both physical and emotional pain made me almost feel their hurt.

shiv

The problems of the two brothers are opposite, Damon as human was already damaged, because of his father, because the pressure he had as first son and because he was, no matter what he did, "a constant disappointment" to him. He experienced war and surely wasn't a pleasent experince. Stefan on the contrary as human didn't experience pressure, he was dad's favorite, Katherine loved him, he was still sort of naive when he turned. We know that when you turn into a vampire everything that you were as human, get highten. Damon emotional damage had two effect on him, hurt is his Achilles heel, so when he feel hurt, is unbearable, he snaps and lash out. But at the same time, he is used to pain, so he embraced his vampire side because he can do anything about it and get on with it, he created an armor to hide inside it. Stefan on the contrary being used to be loved and considered good, cannot bare not to be "good" anymore, he is deeply ashemd of what being a vampire bring with it, so he pretend to be human, living a lie that makes him a ticking bomb. So while Stefan seems to be on the surface more well adjusted, more in controll but when he lose it, is off the chart bad, has problems with his vamparism. Damon is the one that lashes out and is internally more damaged. But he is actually more in controll of his vamparism, his problem is his humanity, his emotions, his feeling that overpower him.

You are not the only one that scene always get me, no matter how many time I watched it.

Patpet

Yea that scene of Damon having to take out Rose is one of the most devastating in the show. Damon is a very compelling character, as I say there is some irony in the fact that outwardly Stefan is always the one struggling with his Vampire nature, but Damon who always seems to love himself as a vampire just misses the idea of being human the most although he constantly needs to hide it. And it's not the story of bad boy that you need to turn into a good guy, he's certainly damaged, he's always extremely emotional simply in a more unstable way, and way less in touch with how he feels than Stefan is...

Lucas

Well said.

Can't wait, btw I have to say I prefer the day by day full length much more, just because I can't resist watching the YT version when it comes out early but then I can't bother to watch the full length so I go into withdrawal for multiple days, can't wait for this one :)

Lucas

Rest in Peace Rose! you will be missed. i can't believe i cried again during that field scene even after watching it for the 8th time. can't wait for the next episode :)

Courtney Tetley

Such a tragic scene with Rose. She really was the best and the moment in the field is just beautiful and so heartbreaking to hear her ask if she'll see her family again. :( Brilliant reaction as ever and I can't wait for more next week

Poor Rose, poor Jessica, none of these girls deserved this.

Anaïs

Damon, poor thing, can catch a break. Every time he has an opportunity to feel good, to have someone in his life that cares even a little, distracting him from loving Elena, he gets crushed. He cared about Rose because she was a sweet person with a tragic life but he didn’t love her. If anything she made him realize how much in love he is with Elena, how he is conflicted about wanting to care, how tragic and wasted is a life without love, family, roots, she made him think hard about his life. We caught glimpses of what he is behind the facade of tough and rough, badass, selfish persona he likes everybody and himself, to think he is, we saw it in Liz and Caroline situation, when he tried to patch up things between Elena and Stefan about drinking blood and when he declared his love to Elena, how much he loves her and his brother and selflessly made her forget and now in the dream he gave to Rose, to make her die gently and with no fear. Becoming a vampire was the biggest misfortune that could have happen to someone as sensitive and fragile as Damon is. The two sides of who he is as human and who he is as vampire are clashing so harshly, that he had to buried down his humanity not to be crushed by the pain of who he cannot be anymore and who he has became. Life events keep pushing his humanity out with overwhelming conflicting results that cannot possibly reconcile. “I cannot be who she want me to be, because I’m not human, and I miss it more than anything in the world...There is only so much pain a man can take” it summarizes his life and that is shattering to hear and see. His final kill to that poor unfortunate girl is the visual representation of the violence of the inner conflict, the existential crisis he is enduring, alone, because he doesn’t burden anybody he cares with his troubles. He burdens a stranger and by killing her he make sure that the secret remain secret. The last shoot on his vampire face is incredible, he just killed his pain, he killed with rage the unbearable unfairness he feel his life is. That, in a way, is how Damon writes his diary. I cannot marvel more to the level of the depth that the writers were capable to give to this character. Ian Somerhalder performance is outstanding. At first he fought against Damon showing that much level of vulnerability. I guess when you play a character for long time, you became a bit that character and Damon would die before showing others vulnerability. But Kevin Williamson made him realize that this would give his character another level of depth. He realized that and got on board with it. To bring truth to the performance, he had to go psychologically in a place he didn’t want to go and afterwards he was depressed for two days. But the result, for us viewers though, it’s magnificent and heart shattering.
