Anthony Stewart Head is such a wonderful actor. Uther and Giles are such different characters

I'm so glad you found it helpful! I've been worried every week that I come across as super annoying with my long lore & history spiels. I say right before another one happens... For Excalibur's origin's... The Sword in the Stone and the Sword of the Lady of the Lake are usually two completely different swords. One is called Caliburn and one is Excalibur. However which one is meant to which has been sort of lost over time as. They can be read as one and the same as most people assume that the sword Arthur uses is always Excalibur. Depending on the retelling though it is supposed to be two different swords that prove his worth as king at different periods of his life. He also is offered a chance to gain a third special sword but he knows its not his destiny to wield it and so passes the opportunity along to his knights to make their adventures upon. If the retelling is of Arthur as a child/early teenager (no later than thirteen) then he traditionally pulls the sword from the stone as England's been without a King for many years and Merlin's bestows a miracle upon a church yard where people fight for the right to pull it. Generally after he does, the kingdom fractures for a while as most rival leaders believe they can easily kill this child and become king themselves. Merlin cautions Arthur not to wield in battle until he believes hope is lost, then when he draws it out he will win hands down but the sword shatters. Arthur later tells Merlin that 'a king without a sword is no king at all' (bit of a Spider-Man to Tony Stark moment for them), wherein Merlin tells him that 'If he's nothing without a sword, he shouldn't have one'. Arthur takes it in, and deeply reflects upon it. Whilst riding through the forest one day, as they pass by a lake, the Lady holds her arm aloft with the sword in her grasp, Merlin tells Arthur that he has reflected well on the lesson and is being rewarded for his wise actions by a gift of the gods/old religion. He takes it up from the lady, along with a sheath that prevents him from taking a mortal blow/serious damage no matter the battle. Once Morgan decides she's against Arthur though she has the sheath stolen and hidden away allowing him to be killed by Mordred. In traditional myths, there is a Red, a Green, a Blue, a Yellow and the Black Knight. Each pose a significant quest or challenge for a specific knight to prove their worth/honour. The Green Knight is possibly the most famous after/alongside the Black Knight as he fights/quests with Sir Gwaine/Gawain/Gwalchmai (we've not met him in the show yet. Traditionally in legend he's Arthur's cousin or nephew, not in this show though).
