I grew up in Chicago with a TON of snow, and there's definitely different densities of snow. Mainly light fluffy snow, dense crunchy snow, and icy snow. Icy snow is what you get from sleet (like raining slushie snowflakes) or when you have layers of snow that melt and then refreeze on top of each other into a solid blob, and over time in the winter ends up very muddy. Light fluffy snow is very dry and won't stick to itself to make snowballs or snowmen, but will over time melt and compact into icy snow. The snow that works well for snowmen or snow forts is the snow that's crunchy when you step in it. It's kinda sticky in a way, it's fluffy enough to not be as dense as ice, but melty enough that it stays where you put it. Getting that stuff off of clothes and boots is always an adventure 🙃
I've never made a snowman with three giant balls tho lol. It's always just making a giant pile of snow and sculpting it
