While We Watch - Prologue

Rating: Explicit, ABO, Alpha Kara, Omega Lena.

Description: History has told of rare omegas that could bring entire civilizations to their knees. For centuries, these stories were regarded as myth, but all that changes when Lena Luthor’s heat sends National City into chaos.  Under the pretense of keeping society safe, the city's leadership persuades Lena to enter a private facility, where she will be monitored 24/7. Hungry for profit and any excuse to keep her under lock and key, they set up a live stream service so anyone world-wide can pay to tune in and watch.

Prologue:

The little council room was a place where all of National City’s big decisions were made — and there wasn’t a single beta or omega present on the afternoon that they were discussing Lena Luthor’s case.

She was an omega in her twenties who had caused mass chaos with her heat. There had not been another recorded incident like it in recent history, and it became a matter for the state to resolve when it resulted in a disruption of citywide services, in addition to widespread fighting and rioting.

The council president was quite stern on the matter when he announced, “It’s imperative that we quarantine her.”

There were few among the council that would openly argue with the president, but a pudgier, older councilman laughed in disbelief over the suggestion that they impose a quarantine. “Don’t be absurd, she’s just an omega, not a virus.”

“You’re a fool if you believe that,” the council president asserted. “Think of the chaos that will ensue if we permit her to live freely. The city will tear itself apart.”

“You’re talking about locking up a young woman who has done nothing wrong, for no other reason than fear,” came a quieter voice of dissent from the back of the room. It belonged to a reporter who was allowed to sit in on the meeting.

One of the consulting scientists stepped forward and cleared her throat before addressing the room. “With all due respect, Mr. Schott, Miss Luthor is the equivalent of a biological weapon. She warrants fear.”

The older, kindly councilman spoke up over such a strong choice of words. “You can’t possibly believe that she deserves this treatment. What if she was your daughter?”

“We cannot sacrifice our city for the life of one woman,” the council president insisted. “She’s a threat to our national security and must be detained immediately.”

“This is a violation of her human rights,” the older councilman argued, but it was clear upon glancing around that his view represented the minority.

“She’s a freak of nature,” one of the junior council members argued. “Make no mistake. If we don’t deal with her swiftly, she’ll be the cause of our downfall. Society as we know it will end.”

“With all due respect, you are all failing to see the potential here.” This came from one of the young doctors, who stood poised in front a slideshow with a picture of Helen of Troy as a focal point.  “Scientifically speaking, Miss Luthor is fascinating. It’s been centuries since an omega like her was discovered.”

“And we all know how that worked out. Entire countries burning in her name.” The president of the council gestured at Helen of Troy, and then with a wave of his hand, urged the experts in the room to share their case for quarantining Lena.

Two scientists dressed in lab coats handled flicking through a presentation, while another assumed the role of speaker. “We possess the technology to properly study her. Never before have we been able to document one in the flesh. There is so much to learn, so many tests we could run. Think of what we could accomplish.”

“I’d rather think of the profit we could make if we manage to harness her aphrodisiac properties,” muttered one of the more conservative councilmen.

“We could keep her in a facility with twenty-four hour surveillance,” another conservative chimed in, “Broadcast it nationwide, for a price. The study could essentially fund itself.”

“You can’t carry out your sordid fantasies with her. She’s not a test subject or a prisoner,” argued the older councilman.

“I think you’ll find as of now, she’s both.” The council president seemed firm on that. “How do we market this to the general public? It has to be… tactful.”

The conservative, money-hungry councilman was prepared with an exploitative idea. “Does it? Just knowing Miss Luthor exists is enough to pique the general populaces’ baser urges. We can have a pay-per-view live stream setup, where they can pick and choose which rooms they want to access. They can see Miss Luthor’s day to day life in captivity.”

The plan infuriated the older councilman. “This is outrageous! She’s not just some animal that you can put on display for everyone’s entertainment.”

The conservative was ready to dispute the issue with his colleague. “Of course she is. And she’ll require a handler, someone respectable to tend to her insatiable needs.”

A crude, younger councilman laughed at that. “And then it’s breeding time at the zoo. We can sell it all as educational, meanwhile, the majority will gladly pay up for the privilege of seeing what they can’t have. They’ll live vicariously through this handler. Perhaps even sympathize with them, and before you know it, we’ll have millions of people hooked and desperate to see what happens next.”

“What you’re proposing is beyond unethical—”

“It’s necessary,” The council president informed the room and glanced around with a look on his face that said that his was the final word on the matter. “We’ll control the narrative. We’re saving our nation from a pariah, and everyone can play the hero by funding our research while they watch.”

Just the prologue, and I already despise the council. This bodes well. Thanks for sharing ;)

This will be an interesting read, so many emotions mostly indignation and fury. But it’s a idea and story than need to be shared. I hope you will consider also posting it to AO3. I can think of no better place that a website whose tag line includes the word Transformative. I really look forward to reading more.

Council: We need to stop this menace! Also council: What are suppressants? Legit, I imagine Lena would be fine taking suppressants for life or quarantine during heat just to stave off mass chaos. I'd argue that they even have the right to force her to do that, if she refused. But that's not what they actually want, just like the US government at Tuskegee didn't actually want to cure black men with syphilis.

damnn i'd be pissed if i was lena. i really hope kara can save her or something and/or lena might be really into being the whole watched thing if she wants kara to fool around while everyone watches
