Hot tubs and miniature painting

Intro & Minis

What's up rockstars?! I'm back from vacation and ready to hit the ground running! Staying up in the cabin was AWESOME! Definitely needed the relaxation (this was the first time my wife and I have spend more than a single day away from kids), we spent a ton of time in the hot tub and watching our favorite shows while painting. As you can see above, it was time well spent, finished the Oslyte Guards from Limbo: Eternal War! I hate batch painting but these guys were pretty cool since the 10 of them were made up of 5 unique sculpts.

I aim to actually have this edited and released to you guys soon!

Now it's clear that based on a previous vote that you guys want to see me paint another Tainted Grail mini. So I went and took at look at what I wanted to paint and.....how could I not pick the wolf?!

More News

Quite literally more news. I'm tired of missing Kickstarters, tired of saying my 2 cents on a subject too late, or in a community post where it lacks any soul thanks to be text instead of video form. With this in mind I've decided to not only up my review count, but my news videos as well. no set schedule per se, but more often as I deem fit.

I started out over a year ago talking about very specific games. I'd cover them multiple times throughout their campaigns, even doing a final 48 hour video for some and I hope to cover games more closer this way too. One of my goals is to work on getting a real format down that works for me and is useful to all of you. Ideally this culminates into "segments" within the video kind of like my monthly Kickstarter videos have.

These videos actually take up quite a bit of time as I have to read a ton of updates and compile it all together based on what I feel is "news worthy" but I love it. It's really rewarding to know that my videos are helpful and ultimately that's my goal. Just the other day someone reached out to me thanking me for this style of video as it helped them in their decision process to know not only the options available but more about the companies and context around those options.

Responsibility

I've been thinking a lot about this recently. Usually in the past when I thought of this I thought mostly in the negative (in a self deprecating kind of way). What if I get some piece of news wrong and it negatively affects someone? What if I have an opinion and make a huge mistake on it and people no tear me apart online? What if <insert negative thing I might do with repercussions> is a constant thought I tend to have. This isn't YouTube specific mind you, I think the same while at work, or doing projects at home, etc.

Anyway, recently I've had a surge of positive responsibility thinking. Recently I was turned toward a Kickstarter campaign for Obsidia and it was struggling to fund. They had had two review videos set up through other channels but those channels ended up not making those videos, leaving Obsidia without any reviews and without that exposure.

One of my most favorite things to do is cover super indie endeavors. I did it with Limbo: Eternal War, I did it with Cryptic Explorers and I decided to do it again with Obsidia. Nothing at all brings me more joy than finding a very small and modest game on Kickstarter and showing it briefly in the limelight. As a channel focused on passion for these games, finding that passion in a super indie endeavor and then providing them with my very modest platform to showcase it is hugely rewarding. ESPECIALLY when I see people then on the Kickstarter campaign commenting on how I showed them the game and they weren't aware of it before. Lining up an game that excites someone who otherwise would have missed out on it is just SO AWESOME. Seriously I live for those moments.

Between that and some people reaching out to me thanking me for saving them money from a purchase that would not have fit what they needed and they only found out from a detailed review of mine, or some points I made in a video had me sort of sitting back and thinking what I can (and should) do with my channel. It's not enough to just try and fix the negatives, I can highlight a lot of good too.

Anyway, that's all for today's update. Next up I'll be talking about a new lighting setup I'll be implementing soon and also going over my final office setup with you all. Now, I gotta finish reading this Starcadia Quest Rulebook to do another review :D

Keep on rocking!

Comments

Thanks for being on that front line sir! I often overdo a painting, but I still enjoy just the raw process too much to skimp on it :) Was certainly done with these guys though, I dislike batch painting as the "reward" feeling I get for finishing takes so much longer to get to :)

That's awesome to hear, thanks Mark! I am A-Okay with you disagreeing with me sometimes, we're all our own person :) Ideally I give enough information as to *why* I feel the way that I do so that you can judge whether you care/agree :)

The King of Average

Oh no you don't have it yet? That must be agonizing lol, don't mean to rub it in :D

That wolf will be a great choice for a painting video. I am waiting for my one wave delivery of Tainted Grail (sigh).

I really like that you do paint videos as well as reviews in different formats. Also look for your updates on coming KS's. I watch yours and the one from Tantrum House. I do definitely not always agree with you on certain things, but showing different angles on a KS is always good for making decisions.

Hot tub time is time well spent! Glad all is well. I'm finally able to get back to painting myself, things were a little hectic with all this virus business being on the front line and such. I'm going to do kinda the same thing with Tainted Grail (when I recieve it) some nice washes and highlights with a splash of color here and there. That wolf is bad ass! Speaking of painting, I'm gonna post a pic on the FB page of a mini I did that is way overworked. It's hard sometimes to know when to quit and when to keep going, but maybe some can learn from my mistakes 🙂. Anyhoo, thanks for all that you do! Take care bud!
