A new painter joins us
Added 2020-02-17 15:25:15 +0000 UTCOne of my favorite aspects of running this channel is learning that I've introduced the hobby (board games in general or miniature painting) to someone who ends up trying it out and enjoying it.
This is actually especially true with miniature painting. So often people assume they won't do a good job, that it'll be too difficult. That's a large part of why I started this channel in the first place and was monumental in my decision for a channel name. My entire goal is incredibly modest: be a normal guy. And that's not very hard for me because, well I am.
So often we see these amazing miniatures painted and feel we can never do that good, or that it must only be possible to get good results if you are naturally skilled and artistic. I like to think I prove that wrong. While I'm not amazing, I get perfectly fine results and never use any expensive equipment, use any advanced techniques, or spend so much time on a miniature that it's not realistic for others to do the same.
Anyway, with that context provided: my wife has finally joined our ranks as a miniature painter! She's mentioned it a few times and I've encouraged it each time but no action was really taken until she hurt her foot and had to stay off of it for a while in a brace. Now? She's constantly painting and loves it. It's wonderful to see and we now have yet another thing to do together. I'd not have thought I'd enjoy painting in a "group" before - do any of you do that?
Anyway as you can see above I think she did a wonderful job on her first mini! She even gave her makeup :O
She's been chronicling her work a bit on my Instagram and so far the response has been great which is awesome. She, like many of us was super worried about sharing her painting but I'm glad that once again this hobby proves to be great and full of wonderful people.
Have any of you had your hobby spill over to your spouse/SO?
Speaking of painting. I might have finished my first miniature painting for Stormsunder and I think you guys will like it ;)

Much like you I was into miniatures (but not board games - 40k instead) 15 years ago but then fell out of the hobby when I went to college so recently "back into it' myself :D Glad you find the videos so helpful!

2020-02-18 16:55:39 +0000 UTCGreat job of convincing your wife to paint minis! I paint with my brother or daughter now and then and I really enjoy spending time together. I improved my painting overtime with the help of the Warhammer TV tutorials and my girlfriend did paint one day because she saw me painting however she never tried painting minis. Perhaps one day I could try buying a mini just for her to paint and see what happens. Maybe a cat or something since she loves cats :)

I've had "painting days" with fellow nerds every now and then since I started the hobby.
