this is a scene from early in charlie and march's story, when their budding romance is still far from full bloom.

they have travelled to help another forest guardian with a demon-collecting witch problem and quite a few enemy encounters ensue. march (being a wrath demon) can handle a lot of pain, which usually means he fights recklessly and with little regard for any injuries he might sustain along the way. after the battle is over he relies on his very fast healing to soon be back to normal, stubbornly ignoring the hurt and bearing it in silence -- or even temporarily isolating himself rather than "show weakness" by letting anyone see him in pain. for the first few months of their story charlie keeps offering to patch him up whenever he's injured, but march refuses, even when their medicinal skills would dull the ache and make his wounds heal even faster.

these sketches illustrate the first moment he ever accepts their offer. in essence, this is when march decides to trust charlie, allowing them to not only see that it hurts but letting them soothe it. he's not used to trusting people, and it makes him feel ... something.

(oh and march had shapeshifted into a fully human disguise at the time, hence why he's lacking his horns and ears and everything!)
