One lesson learned from coalition operations in Afghanistan is that each JTAC must be assigned a discrete TAD frequency and must not share that TAD with other JTACs or, worse, other C2 agencies. Sharing TAD nets increases deconfliction burden, raises the risk of fratricide, and degrades the JTAC’s ability to control terminal attack precisely.
Once we have included all the civilian airspace as described in the AIP (2009 example here), we can start the ACO building by placing AAR Areas.
Let's summarize here the minimum requirements for such areas.
I. Altitude
I.1 - Vertical space
By default, a single tanker needs a 4,000 ft altitude block to operate: that's the minimal verti...

The October "masterclass" has been scheduled on 18th October at 18:30Z.
We'll introduce NATO Joint and Air Command & Control (C2) structure, and we'll discuss the concept of Battle Rhythm.
It's a perfect opportunity to discover the intricacies of the modern military command structures, and its 24/7 duties.

With the long-awaited release of the full-fidelity MiG-29 in DCS, many of us are discovering that mastering the aircraft means more than just learning its aerodynamics, systems, and tactics: it also means learning some its language.
In the MiG-29’s cockpit, HUD symbology, and several instruments such as the SPO-15 “Beryoza” radar warning receiver display information exclusively in Cyrillic script. While the English cockpit exists, serious pilots seeking an authentic experience, an...

Following up on the recent post about the origins of the overhead break and some of the common errors often seen in DCS tutorials, I’ve put together a short replay. It includes both a standard overhead break landing as well as the comparison with a more dynamic tactical break (in cyan).

Warning to the reader:
This publication is intentionally (slightly) provocative. We’re going to point out (once again...) the recurring mistakes and half-truths that circulate in popular DCS tutorials, even in official videos. The aim is not to blame individuals. Instead, we’ll use those examples as a basis to deepen your understanding of fighter aviation, so you can approach the simulator with the mindset of a combat ...

In the previous post, we discussed the Wedge and Trail profiles, highlighting the trade-off between optimal lasing geometry and maximum survivability.
This final part covers the Circling profile, a method that fundamentally shifts the tactical priority toward target acquisition and persistent surveillance. We will see that there are two main variants, "Omnidirectional" and "Directional".
The previous assumptions remain true:
Following DCS update of Iraq theater on 09/17/25, you'll find attached the new .xml file for CombatFlite including the additional airfields.

How to use these files?
Backup and replace the existing .xml files in the [...]\CombatFlite\Data folder. You will see both the original theater and the new theater airfields and beacons. You can plan your mission indifferently in any of these two theaters.
Use the theaters.xml file as needed to import .miz files for new theaters in CombatF...

In the previous post we studied the Fighting-wing buddy-lasing and used the medium-altitude level delivery as our baseline. If you missed it, review it before you continue.

Before starting this article, it might be useful to review quickly the level bombing profile, that will be the default delivery profile for all the medium and high altitude buddy lasing profiles.
Also, we will assume here that you are familiar with the 2025-09-16 10:00:07 +0000 UTC

Following feedback, I’ve removed the SA-7 from the High Digit SAM mod and replaced it with the official SA-18. This means the mission no longer requires any mods and should be much easier to play, especially for new players who prefer to stick with the base game for now.

A bit more detail on the “masterclass” concept mentioned earlier: several people suggested that live discussions could be a great complement to the written articles already available. Based on the feedback I’ve received, I now have a clearer idea of which topics might be most valuable to explore.
My current plan is to host one masterclass per month, alternating between tactical-level subjects (such as CSAR) and operational-level themes (like the planning and execution of an air ca...

In our previous discussions on Paveway II employment, we explored all the self-lasing delivery profiles (level, dive, pop-up, loft, and toss). These methods have all in common that they require precise aircraft handling and sensor management to acquire target and guide the bomb, in a potentially high threat environnement.
However, modern combat operations often involve distributed responsibilities to enhance survivability, reduce workload, and leverage joint assets. This brings us to gr...

Do you remember that video?
I had only one comment, but it was overall correct.
"Wasn't the bomb dropped too late, resulting in a miss because the seeker couldn't capture the laser on time? If this is the case, could the laser have been pointed further than the target to help the bomb acquire the laser then bring back the laser on target?
Also, a B-1B briefly obstructed t...

While ATC is the initial focus, as shown in the video above, our work will also extend to third-party integrations such as C2, firing ranges, and potentially JTAC.

First of all, thank you to everyone who took the time to reply!
I received a relatively small number of responses compared to the more or less 450 potential respondents. Perhaps the summer period played a role. While slightly disappointing from my perspective, it doesn’t diminish the value of the answers I did receive. Quite the opposite: the quality of the feedback is great, and I want to make the maximum out of it.

As a follow-up to the previous training scenario centered on Tarnak Range for fixed-wing aircraft, this mission shifts focus toward rotary-wing operations. To avoid any jealousy from our “slow-mover” friends, this post introduces Texas Helo Range, a lesser-known but operationally significant training area used primarily by helicopter crews deployed out of Kandahar Airfield.
Often overlooked in official charts and sparsely documented, Texas Helo Range was known primarily to those who...

The early 2000s were supposed to mark the triumph of precision warfare. Instead, they gave us Iraq and Afghanistan, that is to say two endless campaigns that exposed the limits of technological superiority and the contradictions of modern military doctrine.
In a unexpected evolution, Operation Enduring Freedom weirdly became at some point a war of PowerPoint, of ambitious acronyms and disconnected strategies. For those who fought them, the real battlefield wasn’t just outside the T-wa...
