Second VR poll - do you have VR
Added 2022-08-24 22:08:25 +0000 UTCA lot of people said they don't have VR headsets so here's a new poll.
I just ordered Google Cardboard goggles to test how they work. It cost me $3.55 with shipping. Most Android phones should be compatible and they should be adequate for watching VR videos (I hope). The limiting factor is the screen resolution of the phone (the bigger the better) and the quality of the lenses (which I'll be testing when they arrive).
My phone for example is 1080x2160 and that's a bit on the low side although not much different from my HTC Vive which is 1080x2400.
There are also some plastic VR goggles that you also insert your phone into and I think they start at $10. I won't be testing these for the time being but they're also an option.

having a good enough phone is harder for a lot of people then you would think. also having interst in vr in general isn't high. like even if I had the highest vr thing for free it doesn't seem that cool

I found "Legato Cardboard" though which seems to be a cheaper copy of Google Cardboard. And as for the comfort - I don't think it matters much if you just want to watch a 1-2 minute long video.

2022-08-25 19:57:09 +0000 UTCthat's another thing, google doesn't sell google carboard here, or other things at all like pixel phones, so you either have to buy a knockoff or build your own and from my own experience and what i've heard most options are uncorfortable in one way or another

2022-08-25 16:52:05 +0000 UTCFor playing games you're absolutely right, but for watching VR videos Google Cardboard might be good enough and really affordable at $3 - $5 provided you already have a good enough phone (at least 1080x2160 screen resolution). I'll be testing it as soon as it arrives. Also Oculus Quest 2 is a standalone headset that doesn't require a PC to use, although there's an option to do that to play PC games at higher quality. Still it's a very good, affordable headset which at this point is better than my original HTC Vive that I bought 5 years ago.

2022-08-25 11:00:12 +0000 UTCi think VR isn't quite there yet for making exclusive animations, i for one live in brazil, it is a privilege that i'm able to support you on patreon, but the technology is still too expensive for most people to actually invest in something like this, for a good vr headset you need to get a pretty beefy desktop and if you want tracking with the sticks you also need to setup the sensors and stuff
