Q&Aardy - June 2024

I gotta do these more often, friends. Is there something you've always wanted to ask me? Either about my stories, or my characters, or just me? I'm an open book (well, mostly) so please feel free!

To kick things off, a random fact about one of my stories: I already had the idea for Upgraded, but wound up setting it in Charlotte because I had a layover there and I really liked it. The rocking chairs mentioned in the story are actually a staple of the airport.

Lol, I hate to disappoint, but I really don't! I think they LOOK really cool, and I've felt sexy the couple of times I've had them, but I don't like smoking things in general and cigars especially take FOREVER to smoke lol. I started getting bored with it! Maybe I'll feel differently in 2-3 decades when I'm officially a dignified gentleman ;)

Big fan of your stories involving cigars (obviously ha!). Curious, do you enjoy them as well?

Recently, with the images, it's been cooking up a sequence I think is hot and then writing a story around it. But I'm getting away from that because I could tell it was beginning to stifle my creativity, and you all don't want to pay for subpar work! So the next stories, I've gone back to the idea first and foremost. Usually I have a clear "before" and "after" in my head, along with a couple distinct scenes, and the rest I fill in as I write (I only write chronologically, I can't do it out of order!) If a story has been in my head for several days and I can't shake it, I know it's probably worth writing. I usually just jump into my ideas head-on. I guess there's a few I haven't done yet - there's a reason I avoid doing series now, they're just too daunting!

What's your typical writing process look like? Are there any ideas that you've been tossing around but don't feel like you're ready to tackle?
