Hi everyone! I'm pissed.

It is currently 2:47 am and I'm furious.

I've gotten word (and confirmation) today that two people I used to respect and consider friends have gone the route of gouging people for money. Ironically, this is directly on the heels of one of those people calling me a snake for joining the Verified Creator program, even though I've literally never sold a mod in my life.

Fortunately, I think I've experienced some personal growth over the years. I used to react immediately and without regret, then deal with the consequences of my actions later. Instead, today, I asked my close friends for advice, and I have decided to heed their words.

To that end, I will do nothing. I think this practice of paywalling knowledge is fucking abhorrent and disgraceful, but I won't do anything about it. Nobody will benefit and it will only spread negativity. However, I have a different plan.

So, what's better than spreading negativity? Why, doing the opposite! If I'm angry about people forcing others to pay them for mods and/or modding knowledge, let's fucking do it for free. Every god damn week.

If you have known me for any length of time (or, frankly, if you've even HEARD of me), you know I like teaching modding shit. I write a bunch of guides, I make a bunch of videos, and I spend a ton of time in discord bullshitting about mods.

I have a proposition.

Let's take one of my weekly streams - which day, I'm not sure yet, I'm thinking Wednesday - and YOU tell ME what mods you'd want to add to Tempus or Opus. I'll go download them, and we'll go through it together. I'll show you every step I take when adding/removing/editing mods. I'll go through every tiny thing you'll need to modify the list on your own.

You don't need to pay me. You don't need to subscribe to YouTube or Twitch or Patreon. You just need to be present, be social, be active, post links, and pay attention. Show interest. Of course, you're free to donate if you want, as this is my only source of income for now, but I will never, EVER require it from you. Fucking disgusting behavior, that.

tldr; Once a week, we're streaming modding lessons. If you want to learn, I will teach you, free of charge. Let's pick a day and start next week. YOU DO NOT NEED TO PAY PEOPLE TO MOD YOUR GAMES.

All the best,

If you can use Excel, you can use xEdit. They are very similar.

I would absolutely be interested in such lessons, and thank you for such a lucrative opportunity. Would these lessons be recorded for those that can’t attend live? Is coding experience required?

Tristometer

What information was being paywalled? There’s numerous guides on creating xEdit and Creation Kit patches out there. Nobody is saying that you have to pay someone to mod your game for you. A commission is just paying for someone else’s time and effort to make the patch(es).

Caleb Hendren

People don't commission things because they want to do it themselves.

Gutterwren here. I once mentioned adding a fishing-themed option to the Mara statue at the beginning. You start out in Riften, with a set of fishing gear and a hunting knife and a juvenile Mudcrab to hand in so you can immediately start the fishing quests. It’s an organic way to see Skyrim, you might be told to clean up trash in Markarth or bring salmon to whiterun or deliver something to Falkreath. It’s an interesting role-playing alternative to starting out as a beggar or farmer and eventually become a Dragonborn!

Id be interested in learnig about enbs and adding presets to the list

Can I suggest showing how to update a mod if you want to try it out Rule 11 style before TM gets updated? For example, "The Taste of Death" is 3.?? in TM but the author uploaded 4.0 a week ago.

We are both Sgath, one who lives in shadow and Leoht, they who are dedicated to the spreading of light to others. Being who we are, we cannot escape our destinies, we can only make choices that define which part is important to us in the moment. Having said that, I do not take sides as to do so would be to be disingenuous to the nature of who and what we are. However, I strive always to be Leoht, one who shares freely what I have learned and to be of service to others. The shadow calls to us always, it is the easy path, the one where we live in half-truths, assumed ideas, and always afraid of the next moment and what might come. To be of service to others is the hard path, to extend who we are, the best of ourselves to others, to share it freely is the path most often not taken. To teach, to convey, to provide learning to others is the lighted way. I salute the idea of streaming how to learn modding. I am quite elderly now, but my desire and need to always learn, to take on a challenge beyond what I think might be possible drives me in steps from moments to moments. So, in conclusion, yes, absolutely provide the streams, we will come, we will learn, and from some of us, something amazing will be created and shared with others.

Braindump

I do like this idea. Thank you for your willingness to teach

Matheus Rocha

Well ill be sure to show up for these

Echo Arashi

Surely a man of culture, wealth, taste, primo civility, and frankly.....just a good dude.

Benjamin Johnson

Great idea!

God bless you, Nick. You're an absolute fucking Chad. And to me, you're a cat, not a snake. You land on your feet, and even if you get grumpy, you still show us your knowledge. Appreciate you, chap! These modding lessons are perfection! Might I ask for one on Community Shaders, at some point?

Bathrobe SamuraiB

A part of me thinks you should be extra petty and start talking it up in their discords specifically to undermine their paywall bullshit. It's probably a good thing I don't have any part in the decision making process.

Steve North

I'll just say no and do something else. ez.

Nicholas Jae

Sounds interesting, I can't wait for some idiot to try to get you to add a sex mod, will be real funny.

The Mysterious Stranger

god bless <3
