2023-03-14 07:04:08 +0000 UTCTom Baker just radiates great energy as The Doctor! He really makes a memorable first impression with this opener and completely dominates the atmosphere. A fun introduction to The Fourth Doctor. But I really like how this introduction story is also a nice bridge between the Third and Fourth Doctor with UNIT being front and centre of the action scenes with the vehicle segments and the gun explosions. I also like that Sarah Jane struck a relationship with the robot in attempt to appeal to its better nature to the point where it only wanted to protect her which gave a bit of a King Kong vibe as you mentioned. Miss Winters is an entertaining villain despite going batshit crazy in the second halves of the story. I liked that Sarah Jane pulled a gun on her too. I also like how she was slightly sympathetic for the robot at the end, that scene with her and The Doctor briefly reflecting over the events was good. Probably for the best that she didn't actually witness it die. But I agree with your analysis on Sarah Jane. I like that she can be naturally scared but also daring, empathetic and inquisitive which really is an appealing aspect for her as a character. Benton helping The Doctor and Harry out with a solution was genuinely great too. I like that he got to contribute. Him, The Brig, Harry and all of UNIT all pitching in to fight against the robot's destruction and growth. It was nice to see everyone somewhat have a key role here. The Brig getting annoyed with Miss Winters was funny. And I agree with you about the creator. I wish he would have survived given his hesitation in the final part. Overall good opener. Looking forward to more reactions. :)

2023-03-03 00:59:39 +0000 UTCI agree with you on that. The next story The Ark InSpace introduces Philip Hinchcliffe as the new Producer. Most of Season 12 was commissioned by the previous regime. Robert Holmes was already in place as the Script Editor. The Philip Hinchcliffe and Robert Holmes Era properly begins with The Ark In Space. They were a formidable team. The stories were more adult, darker, grittier and genuinely scary. Which stories will you be reacting to in this season?
