Reacting to "Life After Death" by Biggie

Finally got this one done. This has been one of a handful of long albums I've been wanting to tackle for awhile. Left on that list is Faces, 4eva Is a Mighty Long Time, and Speakerboxxx (not necessarily in that order)

Enjoy!

I'm stepping forward as a representative for the patient J. Cole fans. "It will not be 14 months before I do another J. Cole". We remember! Haha. Some thoughts on that, I recommend stepping back to Born Sinner before moving on to KOD and Off-Season. I think getting a better sense of how his career and personality have progressed will give you a greater appreciation of all of his projects, especially since you started with an already "enlightened" Cole in 2014 FHD. Sideline Story has a few classic Cole tracks but it's not worth checking out unless you find that you enjoy all of his other albums. The rest are a must though, IMHO.

I 100 % agree with you, Bob. Playa Hater is the best song off the album. Great reaction as always!

Looking forward to that 4eva is a mighty long time! He doesn't have the same name recognition, but if you just look at quality of discography Krit belongs in the tier of the best rappers of the past 10 years alongside Kendrick and Cole imo

I watched it finally in full. Bob said he was listening with the fact that big just died before release of the cd but he’s definitely listening in 2024 with 2024 ears. Pointing out misogyny and all. Some stuff went over your head but hey I ain’t mad at ya(we ain’t mad at ya) lol. The 2nd disc has the most fillers but it doesn’t fall apart at the end. You missed all the context of the beef with 2pac, Nas, and wu tang. Especially with the songs you thought were weak towards the end. Downfall long kiss and you’re nobody are very eerie and prophetic considering that he died the way he did. This album was supposed to originally release in 1996 on Halloween. There’s a lot of praise of this album despite people not recommending it to you. It because it’s a double album more than anything else and your reviews are already long. You’ve gotta do more research beforehand on these classics because they’re considered classics for reasons that people can educate you on. You’ll always form your own opinion but the info helps instead of reading rap genius annotations because they’re user edited and I’m sure you know that. This is highly acclaimed and probably 1 of the best double album in hip hop especially since its production stood the test of time. 10 crack commandments is a hip hop classic. Biggie was known for his wit and humor. It’s crazy to take certain songs or lyrics too serious. Why do you hate puff so much? lol once again I ain’t mad at ya cuz it’s 2024 he’s a nasty man. Good job though.

Puffy's voice usually ranges between annoying and insufferable as it is, but the yelling gets extremely bad... It's fully understandable that it took you out of it the times that it did, Bob. He does have an increased presence on the second half... That being said I've played this 2-disc album so many times during high school, I don't mind giving it the full go whenever I play it... Really good double disc, trimmed down single disc would have been hard to put together but potentially amazing

Each phase of "Playa Hater" was too glorious :'D The disbelief, the enjoyment, the increasing distaste for the actually terrible Diddy parts... I've never enjoyed this track more than I just did, lol

You should react to lifestyle of da poor and dangerous by Big L.

James van Rijckevorsel

It's funny Long Kiss Goodnight was produced by RZA, cause Biggie was having tension and subliminal back and forths with Ghostface Killah and Raekwon during this time. That's also not a typical beat for RZA to make, but I guess he was making it with Biggie's sound in mind and not the darker, grimier sound of Wu-Tang. And you missed the posthumous 2Pac diss on that song too when he said, "I ain't mad at ya."

Blond girl in Sky's the limit video is supposed to be Faith Evens

Grand Ason

You gotta react to 2Pac (Makaveli) The 7 Day Theory after this one.

tradez401

MF Doom is definitely better, and a much wider arsenal.

Raitis Stafeckis

You've heard The LOX before on DMX album. There were featured on the track "Niggaz Done Started Something." They are a group from Yonkers and their most famous member is Jadakiss. He is a certified legend.

Curtis

Biggie is the greatest rapper of all time. And that's not an opinion. That's a technical fact. Eminem rhymes his words with the best of them. 2pac is better at connecting with your emotions. Nas is an amazing lyricist. But Biggie RAPS better than any other rapper, EVER. It's a travesty he died at 24 years old and only has such a small body of work.

Curtis

you gotta get into the l.o.x ( Jadakiss, Sheek louch & Styles P). Jada is well respected in hiphop as one of the goat lyricist

Finally back to some REAL SHIT. Hopefully Makaveli soon and It Was Written.
