Iykyk. Pretty interesting. Considering how popular the album is.

It’s on YouTube and it is the performance that shot Michael Jackson to superstar status like no other artist before him. It’s the first time he did the Moonwalk. Everyone that watch it back then was amazed by that performance.

2022-10-29 07:02:47 +0000 UTCFunny enough this is sending me back down the City Pop rabbit hole. Time for some Tatsuro Yamashita, and maybe some Masayoshi Takanaka. Probably worth a little deep-dive listen session sometime, the 80's/90's "City Pop" genre out of Japan become a meme over the last few years but certainly not for a lack of proper good jams. They were taking what the western pop scene was doing seriously, and laying down their own expert responses. Thriller of course is the crown jewel. It's far from a perfect album but it's rightfully earned its place at the top anyway.

2022-10-28 22:37:33 +0000 UTCRe: Human Nature, I don’t think MJ is cheating per se. I read it as a love letter to NYC (the Big Apple) and the allure of the city itself. A desire to not stay tied down, sure, but in a way that preserves his freedom to absorb the sheer spectacle of a place like that. My wife and I nearly made this our wedding dance before we dived into the lyrics, lol.

2022-10-28 22:16:33 +0000 UTCI hope and pray that Bob goes and listens to some of the teardowns of this album, the ones where they play the various individual instrumental and vocal tracks one by one so you can see the insane and sheerly immense talent of Michael on display. His vocal talent was ridiculous, his pitch, his intonation, his ability to do things with that voice that no one else could do. Add to that his dancing ability and his videos, and you get the total package, probably the greatest entertainer of all time. Edit: you noticed that was Eddie Van Halen playing the solo on Beat It, but did you see that the rest of the guitar play was Steve Lukather from Toto (actually a ton of this album was played by most of the guys from Toto, they're damn near Michael's backing band)?
