Reacting to 'Circles' by Mac Miller

Direct Play Link: https://iframe.mediadelivery.net/play/27377/22c7d1fa-c41e-45fd-b408-8271acde4dda

There's a chance this might require a re-upload. It plays for me, but then it stops? But that issue might be on my side (haven't done a restart after all my recording/uploading yet). Hopefully it works for you guys.

Any possibility at doing faces?

Dev

Do faces next

Max Leatherman

I think that frantic sound in the bridge of Floating is what he's trying to get away from. I think it's the sound of his anxiety. Or all the stuff that makes him anxious. That's how it makes me feel.

Joshua Brice

Surf and good news my favorites for sure. Hype for melodic blue// Joey badass has an album coming out the 22nd 3 singles have been released and they are all great. If u wanted to do another new album on release I’d recommend that.

Lil Slatt

I say early albums so he can see how innocent and happy he was at the beginning

Edwin Ceballos

Well.... if you decide to react to another Mac Miller video. I think you should do the Best Day Ever or Blue Slide Park Let's be honest, Divine Feminine, Good AM, Watching Movies with the sound off are all a cry for help. Same style, if you are a true fan you know. The mixtape Mafadelic, Faces and Run on sentences are pure raw emotion that should only be heard when it was released. We all know what happened, I will always miss the man. I listen once a month to remember him. Shoot, only artist I ever listen too. He will be alive while his music is alive. Great video reaction, actually dissected the lyrics. Glad to know that Mac is still alive

Edwin Ceballos

Yeah, I need to. I've been putting it off because I need to upgrade my entire PC rig and I want to have that hardware in place before I spend literally thousands of dollars on camera gear (that stuff gets expensive fast).

Bob_the_Poppop

<3

Bob_the_Poppop

Yeah, they're really good. I'm glad they were added in.

Bob_the_Poppop

I really need to listen to Drunk. REALLY really need to.

Bob_the_Poppop

Isn't it though? I've been listening to Mac all weekend :)

Bob_the_Poppop

Sometimes it can be so easy to say the darkest things when you're isolated/think no one is listening

Bob_the_Poppop

I was thinking of doing that too, just starting from the beginning now.

Bob_the_Poppop

My pleasure :)

Bob_the_Poppop

I think I was still coming from the addiction mindset from the previous album. This album is definitely more focused on relationships, so I agree with what you're saying here 👍

Bob_the_Poppop

Hope you're feeling better :)

Bob_the_Poppop

I’m not a huge Mac fan but always seemed to like a few songs off various albums. But I really want to see Bob react to Perfect Circle/ God Speed off Good AM

Jackson Mayhew

Please buy a new camera BOB!

IDK

Faces was not the start of everything cmon now

CRASH

Loved the video Bob. Now we just need Faces. Please do a video for Faces!

Ryan

Bob we NEED! Mac Miller Faces reaction. That album/mixtape really goes into depth with him dealing with his mental issues you can say it’s the start of everything and is really emotional listening back today this was when he was in the thick of his drug problems

Connelly Johnson

Hey Bob, not sure if you check these comments but if you do the main producer did a pretty fantastic interview on the situation at the time, how he finished the album and where a lot of the songs were at when he picked it up, definitely recommend checking it out if you're interested! https://www.vulture.com/2020/01/mac-miller-circles-jon-brion-interview.html

I can’t listen to Good News without crying man. First time I heard it I bawled my eyes out. Mac is the same age as me, and I he was a big part of my life during my 20s. He blew up with KIDS around the summer time after high school and I’ve been following his career since. So when he died, it literally felt like a close friend died.

George

i heard this album without realizing that it was the deluxe version. And I gotta say, I can’t see this being a complete album without those last two tracks. I’m sure there was a reason to add them as the deluxe edition. i just really love both those songs, great additions to an already great album.

Jorge Campos Jr.

Bass in the last two songs was played by guess who... Thundercat. Still think you should hand pick Drunk for next month :) great video Bob.

Diego Pumarino

Drugs were a huge problem for Mac, obviously. If you listen to his early music, he has existential crises often. He talks about what are we even doing here,? What’s the meaning of it all. Why does it matter. Also the mental feelings even when he’s sober are probably ugly. I’m sure becoming famous so young was also something he wrestled with. So many celebrities do struggle w that. And think about how he knows his whole image involves drugs and stuff, I’m sure he felt he was disappointing his family and fans and even hisself. So much going on with the drugs use to compound on. Not to mention the major/embarrassing breakup with a girl he loved for years. When they broke up Ariana said it was cus the drugs. And when she was with Pete, it was a huge blow to him bc of the Internet drama.

Isaiah Piedra

I love to picture Mac playing the drumset on Everybody. A true artist. The fact he could play so many instruments shows how dedicated he was to music. Not rap but music. The majority of the album was already finished, also Mac produced nearly all of it himself. The drums you hear are him, the pianos, the synths,. The songs were pretty much complete except some few spots . And the titles and such were already set.

Isaiah Piedra

I grew to like Mac’s frat rap but Macadelic is where I fell in love. I really hope he doesn’t jump straight to Faces next.

CRASH

Well, this made my Friday. Such a smooth, chill sound.

Joshua Brice

Thats why i thought it’d be better to start with macadelic or movies so you’d connect wit mac more, then you’d feel the impact of swimming and circles more

Litty Again

He did a lot of work on Late Registration too. I am not sure if you've heard or are even interested in this. But Fiona Apple worked a lot with Jon Brion, and they actually produced a full version of her album Extraordinary Machine, which eventually got scrapped because she wanted to go a different direction. I will link the album if you are interested in hearing it. You can defiently hear Jon Brion in all the songs though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0AopyyI1kc&t=25s And though I couldn't stand the interviewer, when I was digging for information on this album I did come across this interview she did, and discussing why she decided to go a different direction with the album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sisj-TUa038 Plus if you type in Fiona Apple and Mac Miller, as I randomly did one night. There is a video of her giving her condolences after he passed. Because she said they hung out once and she was sad she wouldn't get a chance to make music with him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zm2PAqR1LvI Once Fiona Apple is calling you great, there is no more debate. lol

Wesley

If the day comes that Bob does "faces", that may be his longest reaction to date. It's a long ride, and soooo many lyrics to decipher. Literally the complete opposite of "Circles" in every way. But it's worth it. The story behind that mixtape/album is just as fascinating. If you think Mac seems in an isolated space on these two albums, it's much more so on that one. It's strange how some of the darkest music can also be the most beautiful and thought-provoking in a positive way.

Wesley

alot of this album was done before mac passed !! the reason it took a while was that jon wanted to make sure it was absolutely perfect, as it was mac's final piece and almost his goodbye.

allie hernandez

Are you on pc or mobile? And if mobile, what platform? And are you watching it on patreon or are you watching at the source?

CRASH

I know everyone wants Faces next but instead of jumping around, why not go back and do his albums in order? Skip the frat rap era and start with Macadelic, then Watching Movies, Faces, and so on. I like frat rap Mac but it’s his weakest work and if he starts there it will only take even longer to get to faces.

CRASH

ive been having that randomly stopping issue on some of your old uploads on here so its definitely not just an issue that u have but idk what is causing it

RandomPig

I hope you get to Faces soon, and maybe The Devine Feminine after. Thanks for all the content Bob

Henry

i think you hit the nail on the head with Floating. He often ends his projects with the concept of his death. Floating is used as an innuendo imo. The bridge and outro remind me of So It Goes on how it feels like an ascension with a hint of anxiety. You should react to The Festival from his album Good A.M. I don't think a reaction to the whole album is necessary (though I do like the album). The Festival is a beautiful outro and will give you a parallel to relate to Floating. Perfect Circle/God Speed is also another great reaction track from the same album

Henry

I don’t want to downplay your comment but swimming for me felt like a natural progression from divine feminine. I wasn’t surprised sonically by swimming like I was with divine feminine coming off of go:od am. I feel like people often forget divine and go straight to swimming for the beginning of this new sound for mac. Similar to how people scream for Faces as if Watching Movies didn’t come out a year earlier and was equally as good.

CRASH

That Jon Brion interview makes me so sad....u can tell he really liked Mac and they were getting closer and he wanted to do lots of work with him. Jon Brion is a legendary producer but he's not normally used for hip hop he produces movie scores. Somthing regular music he's done u might know him for is Fiona Apple Fast as u can.

John

I wonder if the emotional response from so many people to this album (myself included) has to do with the timing of it all. You have to remember that Mac died just like 2 months after Swimming, which to me was like this shift/change in his approach to music and it felt like he was just entering this beautiful new phase and was cut short. And we didn't even know at the time that there was any more music, we figured this was it. So then they announce Circles and you kind of imagine that it might be some of those shitty posthumous albums record labels throw together for a buck or cobble together outtakes etc (Big Pun, Notorious BIG, 2Pac, Michael Jackson all say hello) but then they release the video for Good News and you see him again - smiling, happy, sounding so much more relaxed and singing and in his element, and it was like a gutpunch all over again to see him like that, to hear this beauty from him, and to remember that this is it. It's all we'll ever have gotten and he's gone. I'm an almost 40 year old dude, I'm considered old by many I'm sure, but hearing him ruminate on the title track immediately gets me feeling a certain way, but then I compose myself for several tracks. It isn't until we get down to Hand Me Downs again that the tears start welling up because it's this beautiful, sweet song about wanting to have a baby, and then you remember - he never got to. There is no more Mac, there's no more traces of him in anything except this music. All of the happiness and hopefulness that dots around the mental anguish in this album is unfulfilled promises because he'll never get to explore it. You're hearing the hopes of a ghost, and that's devastating. Jon Brion did an incredible job with this - you hear some loose, light airy sounds, some Beatles inspiration, some lush production, all done within the spirit of who Mac was. I love this album, but god damn it's hard for me to listen to it without just feeling sad all over again and again.

Xavvi

This album was pretty much finished when he was alive. John Brion just added a little final touches before it's release.

Braden

on the first track you characterized the second person as the devil, thats an interesting take. He often adds in a female character that he's talking to in his music, I think finding love or sharing love with another person was always a big concern on his mind. The way I interpret it though, is he's talking to his loved ones that are concerned for him and his fans that love him. Like he's telling us everything is okay, even though he's clearly struggling. It's normal for him and try not to worry about him too much

Henry

Sprained my ankle last night so I’m stuck in the house this post came just in time thank you bob!

David Lima

Great minds think alike. I just sent the same link myself. lol

Wesley

I am about to watch, I can't even explain my excitement. lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faEKDnNXt4o This is a short but insightful interview about how Jon Brion completed Circles, and his experience working with Mac. You have definitely heard of this guy's work before. He worked a lot with Fiona Apple, and even Late Registration with Kanye, and of course Swimming by Mac, among many others. The one thing you will slowly learn about Mac, is that he is highly respected by artists of all genres, and also very inspirational, and gave a lot of artists their first big break. Selflessness is the best word I can think of.

Wesley

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faEKDnNXt4o this is an interview of Jon Brion explaining the process of making the album. Interviewed by Zane Lowe, the last person to interview Mac

Henry

oh man i want to send you so many links to interviews and stuff .. and you just mentioned radiohead in the song complicated and there is a funny little story between these two and mac talks about them for being a major inspiration just sonically (reminder to send links in here later)
