It's uncomfortable to watch at times, but those things are necessary for the story it's telling.

I can’t believe I never connected the mom to the Orville love that show! I love this movie so much definitely a hard watch but I think they handled it very well for a Dcom especially ❤️

The movie is based off accounts written by Piper Dellums in an anthology book titled Open Your Eyes: Extraordinary Experiences in Faraway Places, she titles her short story Simunye. Mahree's name is actually Carrie and there is no public record of her, so it could be speculated that she was "silenced" after returning to South Africa.
