Changes in writing

So. As many of you know, my tendinitis has been flaring up a bit. It's not horrendous right now, but if I want to keep it down and let my hands heal, I need to change some of the things I'm doing.

That means, dictation.

I've started dictating last week and thus far, it's going okay. There are issues, and training Dragon (the main system I'm using) is taking a while, but I'm up to around 1000 words an hour. Not great but manageable. Sometimes I can even hit 1500. One advantage of dictation is because i can walk around (wireless headphones); I can walk and talk and not get distracted by the Internet. Which helps productivity.

Anyway, one issue is the quality of what is coming out is a little off. Some of it is the bad pickup of words, some of it is the change in flow.

Looking at what I've dictated, I've realised I can't really share it to you guys direct. Some sentences just don't make sense. And I'm talking a significant drop in quality.

So. I'm thinking I'm going to change how I work slightly. From now on, I'm going to be editing as I go along, returning to previous chapters so that they can be edited and cleaned up. That will mean that I'll likely only do that one pass before sending to an editor, which might mean a slower production of chapters in the beginning but a faster turnaround time. I won't be waiting that month for my brain to 'rest' before I read and edit books.

I'm hoping there's no big drop in quality; but First War will be a test. We'll see how it goes. I might have to do that anyway, depending on the quality of what comes out, which in some ways, I'll be relying on you guys to tell me.

Hmm... that's about it.

Oh yeah. I'm at chapter 6 right now. 1 chapter fully edited. Working on 2nd & 3rd. By next next week, patron's should start seeing chapters of First War coming out for release. :)
