And he's using it to speak to one person instead of downloading a $2.99 app onto his phone. The man has a personal driver who transports him around New York City. He knows ASL, or at least a little of it, but he compulsively lives life on his own terms. He did the same thing in his courtship with Vanessa. I'll give this show credit for one thing. They understand that grudges, be they months-long or decades-long don't heal overnight. You gotta flip some tables.

2024-03-31 21:58:46 +0000 UTCyou know i didn’t think about it until just now and i’ve seen quite a few reactions that show the lion king reference but Simba and Maya are both “royalty” (Simba’s a prince and Maya’s ancestry and Kingpin’s empire) who have a parent’s death lead to them having to leave home and then later returning to take back their place in their community. also both being manipulated by older family members (Scar and Kingpin) and both having loved ones from their past (Nala and Maya’s family) try to help connect them to their past and their community while both receiving pushback and hesitance first. guess the only thing missing is Maya didn’t have a Timon and Pumba. well unless you think of her dad as that, maybe. i dunno perhaps i’m going off the rails. however when he says “isn’t that from lion king” the other guy says “kind of different but the same” SPOILERS** if you haven’t finished the show had to edit and add this lol because i mentioned Maya’s ancestors a lot but also yes they both have ancestral connections but they both get to have a cathartic conversation with their parent’s spirit/entity post death.
