Early bird: So Did We Buy Commodore?

Update: Fina public version at https://youtu.be/ke-Ao-CpI7E

Thank you so much for your patience while I completed a special mission, and a special video. I've been working 12+ hour days non-stop, but the good news is I can go and have a nap now, because the video, and the big update, is here!

Now, you guys are getting this a couple of days before the rest of the world, so please do not share, and thank you for your understanding that I am posting this exclusively on Patreon for you, rather than on YouTube.

Gee, after all that I hope it's good news!...

Thank you for all your support 🙏

Your friend in retro, Perifractic

Early bird: So Did We Buy Commodore?

Comments

The future of Commodore is looking good, and is in good hands. I keep dwelling on this, and look forward to seeing what you and your team will do. I suppose doing what you can to keep the old hardware usable. Perhaps a modern FPGA case/keyboard C64 (because the old hardware isn't going to hold on forever), and something modern with Commodore Vision OS (premium) and the C4X. Course all speculation... can't wait for more news. Hey... the community is gonna need a new 2025 Christmas program.

Upstairs Room Software

Trying...

Perifractic's Retro Recipes

I just shared this with my alumni group from RISD (Rhode Island School of Design). There’s a lot of great creative talent over there; visual, media, branding, and even product/ industrial design—both from alums and current students.

Chip Dickerson

So awesome. Congratulations!

Eamon Wyse

Idea for a product. A Commodore branded retro style PC case! Beige with good old Chicken Lips logo on it.

Andrew Siddall

Congrats on this. I'm curious how this impacts your day-to-day life and thus your YT Channel. I assume you'll be actively involved in running "Commodore" now.

Mark Elliott

This is totally an aside... but... I really like that "Let's Buy Commodore" tune that you have for this and the previous video. It has been an ear worm that I just can't satisfy.

CubicleNate

Congratulations with the purchase! I started on the C64 back in the 80's, then A500, A3000 and now have a small collection of different Amigas and C64/C128. So exciting to see what's coming next. And great to see the crew you're assembling consists of both old Commodore staff and new enthusiasts, especially Gideon, Bill Herd and David Pleasance. I do love my Ultimate64 Elite. :)

Michael Englyst

How about the Amiga trademarks, the AmigaOS source code IP and ROMs from Cloanto and Hyperion Entertainment? Will you acquire these also?

Koen Van Bastelaere

Thanks mate!!!

Perifractic's Retro Recipes

With no disrespect to their passion, they are a fan startup who got lucky with a trademark application that went unnoticed by the previous owners of the original Commodore brand that we are acquiring. I'm in tallks with them now and have offered to help legitimise their operation. The ball is in their court ultimately though.

Perifractic's Retro Recipes

But what about these guys here? https://commodore.inc/ It looks like they have some kind of license going on and they can use the logo. Does your deal include taking what they have right now?

Alessandro Monopoli

Congratulations, that's so exciting! I'd love to see Commodore come back with a focus on things like making music and video, the same things the Amiga (and C64) were good for. Maybe some serious MIDI implementation out of the box, like Atari ST had? I'm so happy for you!

Starling

A commodore shredder almost seems like it would go well with the commodore filling cabinets, which I have seen quite a few of over the years. Not sure if they were mostly in the Toronto area.

Lennart Sorensen

This is exciting. I've had conversations with friends in the last 6 months, about the return of Commodore and most have said it'll never come back. Here's you proving them wrong !! :)

Paul Liggins

Joined cos I want to support, but also to know things before my friends do XD Very excited about what the future hardware may be. I'm itching to make new games and an interesting new platform could be just what is needed! I'm very optimistic about the future of Commodore. I've made games for four retro platforms already.

Jason Oakley

All signs are this is going to grow very quickly, so 100% yes. Thank you. The goal will be to clearly advertise key positions as and when needed. Stay tuned, and I'll keep you in mind (I've made a note on my special secret list).

Perifractic's Retro Recipes

When this thing gets going, would love to know if you will be looking for business development and sales positions within your organization. Would love to get behind and work for a company that I can fully believe in and have a passion for the products being sold. I believe in your vision 100% and the true love that you have for this project.

Agent J

Damn, I wish I was accredited. I would throw in 50K without seeing a prospectus. I guess that’s why I’m considered an unsophisticated investor!

Steve Taylor

I too would like a commodore shredder as long as it had cabling and software to be controllable from a commodore. Also if it had an integrated disk notcher it could be a winning product!

Nas Jama

Joined to contribute to the Commodore future. I await a more direct way to contribute :-) Exciting stuff!

Marc Williams

I’m incredibly grateful you have chosen to support us in this way. It really does help the mission and the content continue. Cheers!

Perifractic's Retro Recipes

I'm sorry I have been so quiet here, but as a guy that uses his Commodore 64x, AMD Ryzen 7, Linux powered machine, I am not completely against a Commodore branded paper shredder. If that had some REAL industrial design, beige that would fit alongside my retro-modern office / lab. I would buy it in a heartbeat, though... I would probably be the only one... so... bad Idea, I got it. I'll take my toys and go back into my corner... of my lab... with my Commodores... 😜

CubicleNate

Well if I can't support by buying shares yet I can support Christian by upping my membership to the max. I'm in!!

Paul Smyth

I've just become a member, as this seems (for the moment) to be the only way to support Commodore. Having Gideon on board is one thing, but to assemble previous employees of the company is another! Well done! (Commodore Assemble!!!!) Good luck for the future!! However, just one thought came to me... how did you get to agree Ladyfratic, to remortgage the house??!! I'm assuming that was more difficult than buying the company!

Tee Jay

Congratulations! I am thrilled you are the CEO of Commodore... It should only be you. I'm excited for the future, and am so excited with all the former Commodore employees that are on board. When I saw Bill Heard (I had a C128 in the 80s) it brought a tear to my eye. The future is bright. The future is Commodore.

Upstairs Room Software

Ok . New member now to support you in this amazing endeavour !

Alen

This is fantastic! I am so excited. Hope this is the start and that the Amiga can be saved as well.

Proteque - Skuggimaðr

I waited for the YouTube release as I like the idea of waiting for shows like the old days ! The idea of having a commodore set up in my study or a commodore phone in my pocket. It feels so hopeful and too good to be true. Well done Fracfics and Co, well done Commodore ! All the best !

Brad Clarke

Love this. Well done. Your infectious enthusiasm will drive this I'm sure. Fully behind this initiative.

Adrian Japp

Sponsored by PCB Way. As we all know, PCB stands for Perifractic's Commodore Buyout.....doesn't it? 🤔

Jasonfractic

YEAH BABY! This is amazing - can't wait to see the next episode and...I'll be looking at the bank account to figure out how to participate in the next iteration. Thank you so much Fractic Family for taking this on!

Mark Lam

Congrats.

Stuart Castle

I wasn't expecting to say "You know that bloke I watch on YT with the clingy dog that sits on the couch and tries to make everyone cry with old photos? Yeah he's CEO of Commodore now". Amazing work!

Bumbum McPoopy-FartFace

Congratulations! It's an amazing accomplishment.

Patrick S

Damn good news :0 how much of the OG Commodore IP can u get back under the ChickenLips umbrella? :3

the bongmaster

This early reveal is interesting and I see you're much farther along than I thought! So are we going to see a new product reveal next? I totally vibe with your ideas and have thought the same things myself! I think bringing back the former crowd is more of a "nerd" decision and maybe not the "business" decision that might be needed though. Of course I might be wrong!

metatech

Exciting stuff! Congratulations to you, and us all in the fun computing community

conan thomas

Wonderful Development.

Jan

Well, this is getting even more interesting. Good to see important people being involved, both from the Commodore days and the modern efforts supporting the legacy.

Andrew Fisher

Holy heck.. congratulations. I'm amazed you actually pulled this off. I'm also amazed you pulled so many OG people into this that made commodore what it was back in the day.

Jeroen - MagZF

Is there any collateral for potential angel investors to view other than the videos? Thanks.

Matt Money

Simply amazing 🤩

Matt Money

Exciting!

Anthony Witham

Thanks! Goes public this Saturday around 10am UK time.

Perifractic's Retro Recipes

Let's goooo!!! ❤️‍🔥🏳️‍🌈

K Dan

Amazing! Can't wait for my future Commodore(s)... as a guy who never owned one (had an Atari instead). I can still clearly remember the one time, around 1987, when I played Commando on a C64 in Germany. Rob Hubbard's music has been etched into my memory ever since.

Gilles Pommereuil

I am looking forward to all you can do and so wish I could invest right now!

Robin Pillow

Nice! Love the ‘spectrum next’ comment too!

Dean Woodyatt

I, for one, welcome our new chicken-lips overlords. Congrats!

Matt Heffernan

❤️🕹️❤️🕹️❤️🕹️❤️🕹️❤️🕹️❤️🕹️

Steve_T_NZ

Wow. This is getting really interesting now Christian.

Chris Winter

I know you are probably all over this, however while you work on shares and products and everything. Could you release something for people to buy to support the project? Some ideas might be a certificate or a plaque to say 'I am supporting Commodore' - I would happily pay a price that covered the production/shipping costs and included a generous profit margin to help support the project? Or even t-shirts, mugs, other merch. You could use someone like TeePublic - you just need to make some designs. You could even re-release old Commodore designs. Personally I would buy those black polo shirts with the chicken lips on!

Justin Hall

Nice work Christian! Brings a tear to the eye. Long may Commodore continue keeping up with you.

Justin Hall

I have really good vibes about this - Commodore will rise to the top (again), where it belongs and my house is going to be littered with joyful Commodore products, old and new. Pure bliss! You and everyone involved in this are amazing, the passion just shines through! So congratulations Mr C=EO and a BIG THANK YOU from me.

JJA

This is absolutely astonishing. Can't wait to see where this goes!

[redacted]

Such great news can’t wait to see where we go!

Gary Balbach

Peri! This is just the best news! I’m so stoked that this is going forwards. It’s somewhat unbelievable, but in a good way. I truly cannot think of anyone better-placed to be CEO and to take the brand into the future while preserving the legacy and nostalgia that’s so close to many of our hearts. The fact that you’ve got many of the old crew together plus others is just next level too. Watching this episode, where you talked about the Commodore UK offices reminded me that I live 10 minutes from where (one of?) the UK offices used to be. I’ve often driven past and wondered which building it was. Just looking it up now, it was 675 Ajax Avenue, Slough. The building’s been replaced with a modern one. Bah. It also reminded me of a project I did in school. In CDT (Craft, Design, and Technology I think it was), we were asked to make something of our choosing. I made a Commodore logo (don’t sue me). I wish I still had it - would’ve been an awesome key-ring. I remember teacher asking “What the hell is that?” Honestly, Commodore were such a big part of my life. My first introduction to a computer was seeing a Commodore PET that someone brought into our primary school to show off. I was mesmerised by it - never seen anything like it outside of science fiction at the time. That was the moment that I knew I was interested in computers, and led to me becoming a developer myself. My first Commodore was the C16, which I can still remember my mum, dad and I walking out of the shop with. I skipped the C64, going to the C128 (which spent most of its life in C64 mode anyway)., and I LOVED that machine (still have it). I bought the C128 second hand from a guy my dad bumped into in the local software shop (remember those?). I ended up buying that with my dad and it came with a ton of games and two full binders worth of Zzap! 64 magazines (all of which I still have and have been read to death). I upgraded to the Amiga sometime later (bought second hand from the same guy), and while I loved it, it never touched me in quite the same way as the C64 did. I think it was because I missed the SID chip and loved 6502 assembler so much at the time. The C64’s SID and VIC-II combination was just amazing. Your mention of Jeri reminded me that I’ve even got her C64 DTV as well! So excited to see where this leads and what Commodore’s got in store for the future. I know this must’ve been stressful, scary, exhausting, and a whole lot more for you and your family, but thank you! Looking forward to hearing about your first Frac Attack in the news…

Karl Botragyi

That is awesome! Congratulations!

Pharone

That is so awesome on so many levels! Wish you best of luck and can't wait to get opportunity to buy Commodore shares. And for 3rd video, of course. Can you please tell me when exactly this video goes public? I want to write an article beforehand but publish it at exact time.

Михаил

This really is so wonderful. I was grinning like an idiot watching this :) So excited! Thank you! I can't begin to imagine what a gargantuan project this has already been... and all in secret. Thank you from the bottom of Tasmania (and my heart)!

Alistair Campbell

Very open to it! My door is open. Just haven’t had time to do it all yet.

Perifractic's Retro Recipes

Thank you for all your support and generosity along the way. I know I still owe you a project or two. My hope is to get there and for ЯR to feel much the same as ever just a new slightly bigger repair project 😅

Perifractic's Retro Recipes

Thanks for recognising this. Part one was not made until the deal was done.

Perifractic's Retro Recipes

This is just unreal! I can't believe it. They saved Commodore.

Alexander Støhle

More Awesomeness!!!! One thing I like is this was done in secret.... So wasn't released to the public until it was done (or almost done.) Much better planning then some other ventures.

Ayo Stephenson

Well, holy sh1t on a stick Pezza!! I'm in shock and awe at this - I so wish I was an artist or social media manager now (god damn life choices lol)... I really hope this all goes well and I'm behind you all the way. Really can't believe when I started watching your channel, it was a video on a surge protected cable for a C64 (I think, it may have been your pool pump...meh). Anyway, I'm waffling, good luck and may the force be with you!! P.S. Can I be a hidden easter egg in the new product? PMSL

James Langridge

Any chance of getting Dave Haynie on board? Was good to hear you have Bill Heard on the team as I was concerned he was unwell or something as he dropped off YouTube some months ago…

Robert Wilson

Love your enthusiasm ❤️ from a truly grateful Danish C= fan

DannyDK

Awesome work! It must be exciting yet scary at the same time. Sending positive vibes for nothing but success. We had C64 computers in school and I had friends who were Amiga diehards. It was a shame in the 90s when the Amiga ended. We should have had three platforms competing then (Windows/Mac/Amiga).

Michael Dragone

🙏🙏

Perifractic's Retro Recipes

That’s my favourite moment! If I post it on the official YouTube would you like it with the narration or just the music, visuals, and a slogan or two on screen? “The future we were promised”

Perifractic's Retro Recipes

Incorrect. Ownership provenance is explained in part one and there is a doc under the part one video description showing a deep dive. Italians are “fan startups” who use a near identical logo. I’m in meetings with them to legitimise their operation as a licensee.

Perifractic's Retro Recipes

Well said. Thanks for getting it.

Perifractic's Retro Recipes

Thanks for your support and I agree! Commodore is just Commodore, nothing else needed to sprinkle on top.

Perifractic's Retro Recipes

Amazing news! Congratulations! And much respect for the amount of work you've put into this, and for the incredible and very sincere passion you've brought to the project. Some of my favorite childhood memories involve the C64 - from the Christmas morning I unwrapped it, to learning to code, to time spent gaming with friends, studying reviews and heading to the local Micro store to choose the next game, saving pocket money and birthday money to buy the C128 and ultimately the Amiga. The Commodore brand is deeply ingrained in my childhood memories, like it is for so many others, and I can't think of a better steward for the brand, not just for the memories it holds, but for the new memories it has still to create

Ben Smith

This is AMAZING you absolute madman! I am so excited for what the future holds for this project, feel like that little boy again. Christian, one of thing that's been consistent since I started watching RR a million years ago is your genuine love for this retro hobby, so while I'm in nature somewhat of a sceptic (we've been burned before as you said), I truly believe you can do it, you have something unique & amazing here! It's insanely impressing to see all the job you've put into this! Don't f this up ;) If I could have one wish, please please PLEASE don't involve politics in this, as so many companies do these days & alienate parts of their audience/customers. Focus on Commodore & our shared love of the brand & its products instead. PS I upped my tier

Roger Hammar

I’m slowly „finding my words“. Yes, it seems like we were promised something different 20-40 years ago compared to what we’ve ended up with now. Why does retro computing feel so good? It’s like a simple, good buttered bread after an extravagant, opulent meal. Like a simple camping trip after a “fancy” hotel vacation. Retro computing can bring us back to simplicity and more than that: it takes us back from being mere consumers to being actors, from something that has become overly complex to a clarity where our minds remain active. One could say the project is deeply humanistic—not because modern technology is inherently bad, but because humans tend to become passive and complacent due to the possibilities of technology, forgetting to be actors, to be dreamers. Unfortunately, technology even has the potential to hold us mercilessly in its grip, like a drug, making us forget our lives in the process. But we shouldn’t blame anyone else for this. We should go back to the beginnings to learn, to understand again what it was all about. Never become complacent, always remain dreamily creative.

Florian Brockmann

Well done! Now preparing for a good night sleep dreaming about a new more brightful reality… C= C= C=

Bram Doornbos

Yeah I'd buy a Commodore dumb phone 🤳 😃😁

Martin OBrien

Yes fabulous news 🗞️ on your birthday 🎉🎂 too 😁. Happy birthday 🎈 Andrew 🎊🎆🌞🙏

Martin OBrien

I'm I right in thinking 🤔"it was probably mentioned during the video" that commodore name was owned by the Italians until now?

Martin OBrien

Another cliffhanger 😭 There were two moments in the video that made me smile like an idiot: 1. When you mentioned the people that would join the company and so many of the former company were amongst them. 2. When you showed that “ad” for your new Commodore and I realized that this is the first Commodore advertisement the world has seen in over 30 years. That made me even tear up a bit because at least for me, who hasn’t lived during the time old Commodore was a thing, it felt like such an important thing. Once again, thank you so so much for really going through with this and bringing this name back to life.

Marcel

You absolute legend. Imagine this going live on my birthday, of all days. Best birthday present EVER!

Andrew Mitchell

This is incredible news! Commodore dumb phone would be great! lol, can you imagine pulling that out your pocket with the logo on 😊 Well done! I can’t believe you pulled it off! ✌🏻n🫶🏼

Spencer Griffiths

This is just about the best news ever! The one thing that I want to do is thank Lady Fractic for being right behind this. You two truly are a formidable team. As a Dad and a Granddad I know just how scary it is to take risks when you've got little ones relying on you for their security so thanks to both of you for doing this.

Paul Smyth

Absolutely stunning! Many congratulations! Not just to you and your partners in this effort but to us, the fans of Commodore as well! I'm not an emotional person, but I'm actually overcome with joy right now! And you did a great job in this video to explain everything! It will undoubtedly convince even the most ardent skeptics that your intentions are good and that the future of the Commodore brand is bright and in good hands!

Jan de Veen

Why am I crying? Didn't realize it was going to hit me so hard. So happy this is happening. :)

Arkania

Thanks! Ooh good point. I've been bombarding that team with a lot of dev questions for... something ;) But if it came from you I think they'd be much happier to reach out to me and offer them to owners 👍🕹️

Perifractic's Retro Recipes

Thank you! 🙏

Perifractic's Retro Recipes

You are a magician, just upped my tier! Congrats!

Rob Toole

Congratulations! Can’t wait to see what comes next. Does this mean I can get a Commodore key for my Mega65 now?

Dan Wood

I think i am dreaming. Nice ideas, nice guys, nice vision. Lets get the eletronics back for good.If this makes any sense in english

Florian Brockmann

This is great news. I am both happy, and a little nervous for you. I know this must have been a tremendous amount of work to get to this point, and will be an enormous ongoing personal commitment. Thanks for getting the brand out of stasis. I look forward to seeing new "official" Commodore merchandise soon (Commodore 5G flip-phone w/basic services please). I hope you got that nap, it is more than well deserved.

Primal-bits

Awesome to hear you did it! Can not wait to see what the future holds and how much I end up spending on Commodore/Amiga products going forwards.

Skyline

What an absolute lunatic...great work sir! 🥳

Damian Allsopp

Congratulations!

Jet Black

I'm hoping to see some products that actually use 65xx chips from WDC (or FPGA replica M68k in an otherwise "authentic" board)! While the modern mini-console replicas might be fun for some, they're basically just a Raspberry Pi and an emulator, and that doesn't appeal to me.

Thomas Jager

Congratulations! Can’t believe you have pulled this off!!! Vision is spot on, bridging the future and the past. Can’t wait to see your first product.

Chuck Bell

Bloody hell, bro. What a secret to have to keep while we all hoped it might reach fruition! Aftershock just smacked the ultra-wide grin off my face. Having those founders involved... what a spectacular treat! This is either some of the best news of all time or the cruelest early April Fools joke ever conceived, which seems unlikely. Pinch me?

Wave Mechanic

Thanks man!

Perifractic's Retro Recipes

Awesome!

Conrad Vogel

This is the news the community was waiting for! Congrats to the whole team and wishing good luck! I’m sure there are a lot of Commodorians interested in buying some shares, the community will support you! ❤️❤️❤️

You've only gone and done it. Fabulous. Superb explainer video going to great lengths to answer all the key questions clearly. Bon voyage!

That's the outstanding news I was waiting for. I can't wait to see what's next, and I'm already dreaming of new Commodore branded computers. Well done Christian !
