2022-12-20 15:17:08 +0000 UTCSo without revealing any spoilers (all will slowly be revealed in the next few eps) basically what's going on is exactly as you mentioned, fake kings, true royal family, military corruption, etc. The member of the Military Police who was being tortured by Hange and Levi (his name is Sannes) is part of a independently run subset within the Military Police called the First Interior Squad. They have special knowledge, clearance, and privileges that the regular military police do not (aka their ODM gear with guns) The First Interior are also more in the know about what's going on with the corruption and very much in on it. Kenny has been designated the captain of the Brigade's First Interior Squad and he has a team that moves under him (the people who captured Eren and Historia) and Kenny also tried to use the Reeves company (the old merchant man and his son) as a proxy to capture Eren and Historia to try and throw the Scouts off on who's pulling the strings. Back to Sannes, he and his partner tortured and killed Pastor Nick (the Wallist Priest) to also cover up any potential leads for the Scouts linking Historia and the Royal Blood line. Like Sannes said while he was being tortured, he did all this to preserve "peace within the walls" (important phrase to remember) and we can assume this is due to the nature of the preserving the FAKE royal family's power. But now Sannes revealed that the true royal family is actually the Reiss Family, and that Rod Reiss is Historia's father. So that would make Historia the heir to the throne. I hope this helped clear some things up a bit. Also like a comment above said, remembering the last name "Ackerman" is vital for the next coming eps as well :)
