One more question: Have you guys heard about the youtuber Afu Thomas (Thomas阿福 ). He seems to be popular in China as a german. I dont really watch much of his stuff but he seems to be one of those who completely avoid anything political on his channels. I guess so that his "welcome is not overstayed"... Do you know what I mean by that? Would u agree?

What is the intro song?

Feel free to share my examples and build a show around other ways you know of where Chinese people play a system for gain. But leave out my name please!

Now if we could only find someone who could swing getting real green cards for some folks from South Africa🥰

Cindy Chapman

Love the people, am not happy about so much “beating the system” although they are not the only ones, or the only ethnic immigrant group, that engages in such behavior. When an Egyptian restaurant closed, the new owners found 2 sets of account books.

And another example, my shock at hearing another friend’s plan to go buy the exact same item she had bought maybe a year ago. She planned to return the old broken item in the new box with the new receipt so she could get the new one for free basically. I had never seen such financial wrangling in all my years! There is such a cultural difference in this area. What many of us would consider fraud or unethical is done without any moral qualms. It seems to be considered good financial savvy, And I am 100% certain no Chinese business owner reports income honestly. Chinese accountants in Chinatown tell them how to do all sorts of things. Put a non-working parent on the business payroll to get health insurance, hide cash income so you can buy an expensive house and still get child credit on taxes…

Cindy Chapman

Then there was the time her family member was asked by a store manager at a mall store to never come back because the store was losing money on his purchases. Somehow he had amassed a group of coupons which reduced the item by hundreds of dollars during the holiday shopping season. He had bought several items using his method to ship to friends and family.

As I listen to this, I want to say you are so right! My Chinese friend here asked me to go to a local chain department store that had a sale on fake ruby earrings. I asked her why because I knew we had never taken her there. She said a friend asked her to go and buy all the earrings she could, maybe $100 worth. I looked at the store website. Sure enough, there was a big price cut. I asked why her friend wants so many. She said it is a good price. Her friend wants to re~sell and make a profit. The store only had a few pairs left. Clearly some other person had already done this before my friend was asked by her friends hundreds (thousands?) of miles away to buy them and them ship them to her.

This was just such a great show--and I got some much needed laughs! Thanks. So what I don't get is all those videos of "everyone" in China being tracked with numbers and brilliant facial recognition software. Is this another one of those admiring Trudeau type "Oh, the Chinese have really figured out how to control their populations" myths? Are there migrants and others who totally escape the "social credit system"? How? Can you guys inject some reality here? Stay awesome!

Appreciate your show a lot especially the Monday night ones… didn’t make it last week but wanna contribute a story: when we arrived in China as an air crew pre Covid times we were always warned by our airline about express kidnappings… crew members leaving the hotel in the middle of the night cause of sleepless nights (jetlack etc) to go to a 7/11 or stuff like that got kidnapped into a taxi in front of the hotel, driven to a random house and had to order stuff from The internet for about 1000$ with their credit card. After that they were driven to a location anywhere in town and let out again. If they didn’t have credit card they got beaten up massively… I also got one question: have there ever been any big time social media influencers who used to be shills but publicly changed their opinion about China afterwards ? Have u guys been in contact with anyone like that? Possible to make an interview with them? Would be interesting maybe…

Have you guys played Red Alert 2? Do you remember when you selected tanks and click on a enemy unit on the other island, the tanks will go back and forth on the beach like headless flies trying to reach the other island? Kind of reminds me of the video of tanks patroling the Xiamen beach. Stupid pathfinding!

You guys are right about the crime rate in America. In the bigger northern cities the less personal crime does happen, in the south its more personal I think. Lets just admit crime is all over the place and china needs to stop acting so innocent. 🤣

China has said they are gonna fire missles but not at her 😳😳😳
