Early-bird vid: Misadventures in Retrobrighting

Dear Supporters,

Your early access video is with YouTube now! And as you may have seen in an earlier post, after watching The 8-Bit Guy video called Adventures in Retrobrighting, I was intrigued by the ozone generator method he showed to retrobrite some keycaps. After discussing with him on the phone, I set up to continue the experiment, and test if it would be viable to deyellow an entire intact machine without disassembling it, using only air.

Let me know if you have anything to add or correct to my findings. I'm always open to making changes before it goes live in a couple of days. Enjoy your special early access!

Yeah, I had heart failure when I heard that disk noise - I was kind of hoping it was one of Peri's jokes.... Interesting. I've never tried retrobriting although my brother has done a few machines with varying degrees of success in the past. I can see the point that the process maybe doesn't really work, I'm no chemist but the whole 'it comes back' thing has always made me think that retrobriting isn't a solution it's a temporary hack at best, and if it's doing other kinds of damage to the plastic too then I'm happier with yellowed machines and maybe spray painting the really terrible ones.

Watched the video with interest, shame it didn’t pan out. The stuck floppy sounded god awful, like it was eating it.
