Blog: Back to the grind (10/24/22 - 10/28/22)

Hello Patrons! Convention season is officially over and I'm back in the editing dungeon. Here are the latest updates from Gaming Historian HQ.

Retropalooza!

Last weekend, I went to Retropalooza in Arlington, TX! This is a favorite of mine. It is an easy, 1-hour flight and the food is always delicious. I haven't been to Retropalooza in four years, so I got to see some people I have not seen in quite a while! Thank you to anyone who stopped by my table or saw the panel presentation.

I also got to hang out with some of my Discord chat moderators, including Audriana and Wolfmaster! We went to an arcade called "Freeplay", where all the machines are...well...free to play. Marcus aka Wolfmaster is pretty insane at DDR.

While conventions are a ton of fun, travel is always a tiring. I feel old sometimes. Ten years ago, traveling for a weekend was no biggie. Now, I feel like I need a day or two to recoup afterward.

Retropalooza was my last convention of the year. So now it is full-steam ahead on video projects!

Super Mario Kart Editing

Editing continues on the Super Mario Kart video. I'm almost done with Part 2, which is the beefy section. A huge thank you to patron and Mario Kart expert MrL314, who has been capturing some prototype footage for the video. Above, you'll see an early item idea - a piranha plant! You could place it on the track and if a racer touched it, they spun out.

With conventions over, I'll be working non-stop on this video until it is done. Don't worry, I still make sure I take my weekends off.

I've been thinking about what I want to work on after this video is complete. I think I'll be tackling a smaller project, the Batter-Up Bat. This was a motion-controlled baseball bat for the Super Nintendo. A fan of the show sent me one for the video, and I'm excited to see how well it works.

After that video, I'll be diving into the Fairchild Channel F project, which you all voted for in the last poll!

I hope you have a great weekend! See you next week for Halloween and a new commentary video.
