Blog: Off to Retro World Expo! (08/22/22 - 08/26/22)
Added 2022-08-26 21:11:43 +0000 UTCHello friends! This week, I'll be editing the Sharp SF1 video and traveling to Connecticut. I'll be attending the Retro World Expo in Hartford, so if you are in the area, please come on by and say hello!
Monday, August 22nd
There is nothing better than starting a week by editing a new video. It feels like everything aligned perfectly. Nothing too exciting happened today, it was a pretty chill editing session. I edited the narration, did some color grading, upscaled some stock footage, and filmed some b-roll. I cannot stress enough how much I love my new light batteries. I haven't tripped once!
From the 1st editing session, I'm guessing this video will be done next week. This is also due to the short work week.

I woke up to an e-mail from YouTube. They stated my Light Gun video had been age-restricted because it violated community guidelines. I was a little confused, as the video had been up for 8 months already without any issues. I quickly appealed the decision and went about my day.
This afternoon, they e-mailed me again, denying my appeal. I've reached out to my network to see if I can talk to someone at YouTube directly. I'd just like to know specifically what in the video is causing the issue? These are not real guns, and the only reference I make to a real gun is that the Famicom gun is modeled after the Colt revolver. I probably won't get an answer for awhile, so stay tuned!
Besides that, it was another smooth day of editing for the Sharp SF1 video. I need about 2 more solid days of editing and this video will be done.

Today I had to get ready for Retro World Expo. I made up a new game of Jeopardy to play. This is probably the most popular part of my panels, so I'm excited to show off a new board. Most of these answers can be found within Gaming Historian episodes. The winner takes home a Gaming Historian notebook and sticker!
I am also doing a small presentation on Super Mario Kart. Think of it like a live episode. There will also be a small Q&A session. If you are attending, I hope you can make it out to the panel! It is Sunday, August 28th at 1pm in Panel Room A.

Today I traveled to Hartford, CT for Retro World Expo! My flights were uneventful. I did finally get to watch Spider-Man: No Way Home. That might be my new favorite superhero movie!
Hartford has a lot of great history, so I'm looking forward to spending tomorrow exploring the city.

Today I explored the Mark Twain House and the Harriet Beecher Stowe House!
The Mark Twain House was absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately, they did not allow photography inside. But trust me when I say - the man had a lot of money and showed it off. There was beautiful woodwork, furniture, and artwork throughout the house.
I think my favorite part of the tour was his writing room. In Mark Twain's writing room was a billiards table and a really nice writing desk. However, he rarely wrote on the big desk - he preferred a small desk with a lamp tucked away in the corner. Apparently when he wrote at the big desk, he kept staring at the billiards table and getting distracted. So he preferred the small desk in the corner. I can definitely relate to that!
The Harriet Beecher Stowe House was also interesting. Most people are familiar with Stowe for her book "Uncle Tom's Cabin," which helped popularize the abolitionist movement in the United States. But the tour touched a lot more on her personal life, which I knew nothing about. Her house is right next door to Twain's, but it is *much* smaller.
I also worked on my panel for Retro World Expo from my hotel room. I've got everything ready to go! Once again, I hope to see some of you there. But either way, have a good weekend!
