Blog: A new video is here! (06/20/22 - 06/24/22)

I'm back from my trip! Kristin & I took a visit to Washington DC to check out all the museums. The last time I went to DC, I was in middle school. I've always wanted to go back as an adult because I felt like I would have a better appreciation for the museums.

We had a great time and I'm feeling refreshed and inspired! Let's dive back into videos.

Monday, June 20th

While the Microsoft video gets the finishing touches done, I decided to start editing the "Nintendo on Atari" video. I'd like to have this video finished by the end of the month and release it in July. That will give me 2 full months to create the Super Mario Kart video.

Today, I got the Introduction and the Donkey Kong segment finished! Editing is always much easier when you have game footage and on-camera narration to work with.

One thing I had to spend almost an hour on was cleaning my Atari 2600. I haven't filmed this console in a long time, so it had quite a bit of dirt and dust on it! I busted out the Q-Tips, an old toothbrush, and some all-purpose cleaner. Now the system looks ready for primetime!

Tuesday, June 22nd

Another great editing day. Today I edited the sections on Donkey Kong Jr. and Sky Skipper. I had to do some photoshop work on this Sky Skipper flyer because it had some...coffee stains?...on it.

If the edits continue like this, I should have a preview of this video available by Friday. Stay tuned!

Wednesday, June 22nd

Popeye and some of the Mario Bros. segment are done. The Mario Bros. segment is the largest, by far, and contains the most historical context. Because of that, the edit is taking a little longer than anticipated.

I think one of my favorite tidbits from this video is how Atari took full advantage of their Mario Bros. license. In this 1989 advertisement, we can see they used the Mario Bros. and Donkey Kong to help sell Atari systems, despite Nintendo being on the market with the NES and their popular Super Mario series.

Thursday, June 23rd

Instead of working on Super Mario Kart, I decided to just finish up the "Nintendo on Atari" video because it was so close to being done. Today, I wrapped up the rough edit. Tomorrow, I'll go back and clean some stuff up and then, hopefully, post a version for you all to watch!

Friday, June 24th

I woke up this morning feeling absolutely awful. I'll spare you the details. I took a COVID test, which came back negative. So I must have some sort of cold.

Anywho, I went back and wrapped up the "Nintendo on Atari" video and now it is available for early viewing on Patreon! This episode should come out later in July. The Microsoft mistakes video will be out next week. I'm still waiting on the audio mix for that one.

Anyways, have a great weekend! Next week, I'm going full-time on the Super Mario Kart video. Take care!
