Blog: Writing a new script (05/23/22 - 05/27/22)

Hello Patrons! I hope you all had a great weekend. I had to help my family move some furniture on Sunday. As a truck owner, I am required by law to help all family and friends move. All jokes aside, it wasn't too bad, and I got some pizza!

Monday, May 23rd

I spent most of my day researching the remaining two Microsoft mistakes: The Xbox One announcement and the "Red Ring of Death." 

The Red Ring of Death is an interesting mistake. Yes, it cost Microsoft over 1 billion dollars to fix. But the 360 continued to sell well during the chaos. And the brand loyalty was outstanding. I guess I always wonder what it would have been like if Microsoft didn't rush the 360 to market and never had this issue. 

Now, the Xbox One announcement: I forgot just how awful that whole thing was. Everything from the game licensing to the terrible announcement conference a few weeks before E3. And then Sony just completely pooping on them at E3. It's also interesting to note that Microsoft stopped sharing console sales numbers after the launch of the Xbox One. I think the Playstation 4 was easily beating them. 

I'll finish up research on this short video by tomorrow!

Tuesday, May 24th

Today, I wrapped up research on the "Microsoft's Biggest Mistakes" video and also wrote the outline! I'll start writing the script tomorrow. 

I also recorded a new episode of the Video Game History Hour podcast with Frank Cifaldi and Kelsey Lewin, all about the Super Mario World video! Look for that episode to come out in a few weeks. 

In addition, I have found a video editor to help me edit these shorter videos. Luis Illingsworth, who has worked for channels such as DidYouKnowGaming and AntDude, will be assisting me with video editing! I've known Luis for a few years and I'm excited to have him on board. 

Luis will be editing the shorter videos while I will continue to edit the long-form content. All of this basically means - more videos, more often!

Wednesday, May 25th

Today I wrote the "Microsoft's 3 Biggest MIstakes" script! This will get edited early next week and I'll record the narration immediately. Not much else to say about today...I wrote the script!

Thursday, May 26th

I dove back into Super Mario Kart research. The Video Game History Foundation found some early press kits of the game as well, so I'll get to take a look at those for the video!

I also recorded some gameplay footage. I'm going through the whole game as Mario (even though I usually main Koopa Troopa). 

Friday, May 27th

I can't remember if I mentioned this before but: 2 weeks ago, during my week off, our air conditioner died! It was terrible timing: We were getting highs of 95 that whole week. Luckily our local A/C company got us back up and running, but also told us it was time for a new system. 

I had a feeling it was about time. We have had to repair the A/C every year since moving in. So Kristin & I bit the bullet and decided to get a new system. Well, today was install day. And the air handler had to be installed in the attic - which can only be accessed through my office!

On top of that, my dogs Dottie & Kit woke up with some sort of green eye-boogers. I called the vet and they wanted to see them immediately. Kristin & I took them in and they were diagnosed with: conjunctivitis, AKA pink eye! The vet thinks they got it from doggy daycare. 

So today was an off day for me. But at the end of the day, we got a new A/C system and medicine for the doggies.
