UNCUT: Clipse - Let God Sort Em Out

After 16 years, Clipse comes back with a new album executively produced by Pharrell in Louis Vuitton headquarters. Some of their finest raps to date. We typically don't look at the lyrics all the way through, and display them, we figured it might be good since it's so dense with lyrics. As a audience do you prefer this with hiphop albums? The main drawback is that we don't feel the music as much...

Kai's Favourite Tracks: The Birds Don't Sing, Chains & Whips, So Be It, M.T.B.T.T.F., F.I.C.O., Inglorious Bastards

Kai's Least Favourite Track: So Far Ahead

UNCUT: Clipse - Let God Sort Em Out

Comments

You dads thoughts on chains & whips / slavery are spot on - I also thought about chains and whips being common rap tropes. Chains = gold chains/jewelry and whips = cars. And after seeing the video it made me think of the system being the criminal justice system and they beat it even though they could have been locked up for dealing drugs

Please listen to Krayzie Bone “Chasing the Devil: Chapter 2 “Salvation” Album! You both will relate and love the content! I guarantee it

Sovieski Perez

Sorry!!! It's reuploading at a better quality, should be up real soon - sorry it interrupted your watch. The reaction is going up on YouTube soon, so before it does I wanted to get the best version up.

The FrontRoom

Great job with the intro at the beginning. I'm not familiar with their background so that was insightful. Made it halfway through before it was taken down for the editing. Looking forward to seeing the rest. But so far, seems like a fantastic album!

CURRENTLY REUPLOADING WITH CLEANER EDITS AND BETTER AUDIO! NEW VERSION UP BY JULY 21st @ 12am

The FrontRoom

True, you are probably right. I guess I grew up with his music that came out post 2010, so my perception of him misses his early work.

The FrontRoom

Yes, there is a cultural difference, we are trying our best to absorb it and understand better. How did we miss badly on this one?

The FrontRoom

Y’all assessment of this album shows the cultural difference. Missed badly on this one

B.Laster

Pusha T is talking about the rapper Jim Jones in the song chains and whips. About 2 years ago, Jim Jones went on a string of interviews talking about different hip hop list and criticizing pusha t and saying he's not that good

Joshua Taylor

Kai, people are HUGE fans of John's solo work. Especially the first 3 albums. People try to make fun of him and call him corny. The let the net fool you

Joshua Taylor

Stevie played piano on « birds don’t sing », so yeah that was a studio recording. Also, Kendrick recorded his verse in the middle of his rap battle with drake. You can hear it in his aggressive tone and lyrics.

George Jr.

Damn!! Didn't catch that.

The FrontRoom

Okay, I'm going to go back and listen again. Thanks for the heads up. Need to hear me more Biggie actually - only know a few tracks. (dad)

The FrontRoom

So be it. You know that flow dad that’s Biggie.

Uncle Woody

I do disagree with your takes on Pharrell chorus I liked it.

Brandon Wheeler

Listening to the track a second time it was so obvious what "you were checking your boxes" meant. Don't know how we missed that! (dad)

The FrontRoom

The voice on Let God Sort Em Out/Chandeliers is DJ Clue. He was Jay Z's dj, but he's also a legendary mixtape dj on his own. He was also on Inglorious Bastards. They said Pharrell kept screaming out "Clueminati" when making the album and that was one of Clue's adlibs. They added some DJ Clue drops that they found online, sent them over to Clue and he redid himself like he would have back in his mixtape days.

Regarding Birds don't sing, their parents died 4 months apart. Their mother passed away first. Malice (Gene) was the one that found each of them. Also, Stevie Wonder played the keys for this song. "You were checking boxes, I was checking my mentions" refers to the fact that she was getting her affairs in order meanwhile he was just going being frivolous with his time. "Checking his mentions"

Sadia Poland

Classic album

B.Laster

Thank you both for reviewing the album. 🙏🏽 The Birds Don’t Sing is incredible…especially Malice’s verse 😢. Wow…what an opening track.

Adrienne

j princing is in reference to being extorted

Runners

anyone else notice how Malice whole verse on so be it rhymes with TRAVIS ??? them some sick brothers 😂😂😂😂

Runners

8 ball is in reference to a popular 8 ball leather jacket it’s vintage drug dealer apparel

Runners

On P.O.V pusha is paying homage to guru from gangstarr with his flow. I highly recommend you check them out. And on mtbttf you can here is doing the biggie flow.

Nasim

The 8 Ball jacket was an iconic jacket in the 90s. Not only with hip-hop, but just in general here in America. It made it onto an episode of Seinfeld. 8 Ball jackets did become a status symbol for drug dealers. So he's basically saying he has this icon of drug dealer fashion made from top quality LV leather.

Pusha T is talking to Jim Jones on Chains and Whips. During their Tiny Desk performance he laughs MANICALLY like at villain at the beginning of the song.

ficy

This song gets me everytime and I have both my parents here. I have seen pops cry for R&B songs, but is this the 1st hip-hop song pop has cried too? I just cried listening to this reaction on my way to work lol.

Chris U

I’ve listened to Birds Don’t Sing so many times but I still cry every time. I’ve never lost a parent but the way they described losing their parents, I could see it. Sigh…THE POETRY!!! THE ARTISTRY!

Jasmine Felton

Yall have to listen to “Its Almost Dry” Pusha T last project and “Nosetalgia” by Pusha T ft Kendrick. In chains and whips Pusha T he’s talking to Jim Jones. You should check out their interview with Elliot Wilson.

Marsha S

@Dad u definitely didn't disappoint!! 🥰 I think that was an AWFUL song to start with but I understood it after hearing their Joe Budden interview. Turns out their parents died 4 months apart and Malice found BOTH of them! The chorus came from a Pharrell statement to meant to comfort them n he was the one who suggested they start the album there. It was super emotional in the studio for everyone n both said they cried daily tryna get thru it! 😭 it was actually genius because it cleansed ur pallet of preconceptions and set you up to receive the rest of the masterpiece!! 💓💓

Felicia Wiggins

I can't wait to see what the 1st song does to Dad!! We're fellow emos so I'm predicting a flood once he figures out what's happening and/or the backstreet! 🥺😭

Felicia Wiggins

For sure an absolute must listen release, would be sacrilegious to not cover it haha. Thanks Lily! (Kai)

The FrontRoom

Yes! I was wondering if you guys would react to this! Y'all know what the people need! 🙌
