Nice expansion on the initial chapter. I especially enjoy Catchers reaction to the change, it fits the character to be both elated and stressed by the change that has happened and what it means for the future. This reaction is fitting as he has been shown as both the most thoughtful and knowledgeable (with the possible exception of Rei) of all members of Fire Song as well a being the clown and most socially empathic of the team. These two roles show a character that is more thoughtful and contemplative than has been shown to others. Only Chancery seems to have noticed this in the previous book. I look forward to future evolutions of all members of Fire Song as it appears they are being tuned to each individuals needs, personality, weaknesses and "job" within the team dynamic. I will be intrigued to find out what his HUD shows when in battle Thanks and look forward to future chapters and the continuing and evolving story EDIT: Had a thought after posting, I wonder if Shido's "benefits" will also include others that are allied and present within the CAD range of influence. It would be interesting if it influenced those outside of the team, if not to as great an extent.

Do we know his eventual name yet? I can’t remember. 3. First year interstystem being publicly announced ( other teams reactions?). It seems like this has to happen fairly soon. 4. Others finding out about firesong sponsors. 5. Siderov doing something unpleasant Exciting stuff!

I haven’t quite absorbed catchers or reaction yet, so I’m going to have to reread that again. And I did not get where Celic was talking to sitter off. I thought he was talking to someone like Abel or someone like that. I might’ve missed something though.

He deserves it. And we just know a slug like Selleck is talking to Sidorov. May they both get a good kicking in upcoming chapters. Edit: I'd given the new nickname, I'd love it to come from breaking/beating a "King" or "Queen", like say, Sidorov towards the end of their second year, doing to him what he couldn't do to Lennon. Which given his crown... or maybe once they are all beyond Bishop class he takes down a literal S-Ranked King class and is finally not just called Catchwick in his match ups after years of not having a nickname.

2025-05-02 21:28:08 +0000 UTCLoved this! Great seeing the response from Catcher to his evolution and growth with the apprehension and implications of what this means for them all. I was going back and forth with his C5 evolution (quite stunned that his last one came only one rank up ago!) to see all the changes and not sure they fit? I could have been reading it wrong but it sounded like Catcher had armour up to his hips for lower body and then both forearms plus his right arm and the right side of his chest (ch.25 p485). Then in this chapter it is all of a sudden on his left chest and both arms already? Sorry to sound picky, I just tend to always compare back when I can as love visualising the changes! Also interesting to see that only one rank change since sectionals, was wondering how the rest of the group was comparing to Rei's 5 ranks since sectionals (a week on light duty as well) so guess the others have also only had one/will have one soon going by this :D

Intersystems might be enough of a challenge, especially when intersystems for 2nd years would be high Bs and low A. Who knows tho, cool thought

Do you think Abel and the top brass will decide to have first years (Firesong) compete alongside 2nd & 3rd years? I’m reading what everyones saying - if Rei and the rest of them are getting closer to 2nd year numbers quickly, I wouldn’t be surprised if there is an impossible announcement in order to push Rei/Firesong. ????

I’ve no doubt Catcher is gonna live up to that in spades… he’s got just enough madness to be unpredictable but textbook technique. Killer combo, definitely looking forward to his matches going forward!! The evolution is pretty damn good! I love the changes to his upper torso and pauldrons, sounds like he’s got some solid protection there, and the streamlining will help his speed I’m sure. The fact his longsword is so much broader too… and that’s all edge right? Holy. Shit. The crown is a nice touch, especially if he can weaponise it. Keen to see what his display does for him. Selleck is definitely speaking with Sidorov, who else would care who isn’t at least somewhat in the loop! Plus Rei is B4, maybe even B5, so will soon officially outrank Sidorov - and I wouldn’t put money on Sidorov at this point! Wouldn’t bet the house on Rei just yet either. Firesong heading out of Kanes like a herd of rampaging bulls seems about right! Can’t wait to see their reactions or those of the trainers, sparring partners, and instructors Sad we haven’t seen Sarah yet.

I have a habit of rushing through books -- to see what happens next! -- and I'm enjoying the anticipation & deeper read. The forced delay between chapters helps me relish (and daydream about) each one more.

I feel...like the story is still good...but a) I'm starting to miss the small connections and b) I'm a little frustrated with the tease of his sister for so long without the pay off. I might have to just wait for the published book. It just feels disconnected to me amid all the other books and web novels I read. More a me thing.

Catcher is rather practical so I'm not surprised he reacted by puking as it hits him with the full implications of it all. I actually thought he'd be getting a new ability but it feels like the first major upgrades we're seeing with everyone is related with them developing films. Noticed that we didn't seem to get an indication on what his display involves given Rei and Viv's have different focuses in what they show. Improvement to his sword is good though hopefully doesn't take him too long to adjust. Should hopefully make his skill hit that much harder. I feel like de Soto is gonna be annoyed that he described that just as a speed boost even if he wasn't lying. Ok so basically the boost with Growth is that their stat will start gradually improving, which makes some sense. They didn't start out at near baseline with S Growth like Rei did so a gradual improvement to get their CADs accustomed should allow them to eventually reach that. Now just wonder who may be next. Logan is kind of the lone one out so far but he'd also already gotten a bit farther ahead. Rather than a new ability, hopefully we get a nice evolution for him. That has to be Sidorov that Marcus is informing to, but I'm not sure what he'd do with the information. Leak it to cause drama for Firesong? Sell it to other teams to give them a leg up on beating them? He's so ridiculously petty it seems like, but it fits. And we keep hinting towards Sarah. Looking forward to that reveal.
