People's Choice #3 (February 2, 2024)

Comments

I know this is an old Video but you should have played Bj The Chicago Kid’s “Turnin me up” to hear his voice. His collab With Ari Lennox “Time Today” is an R&B dream.

Nolly Thando

I prefer Jordan Rakei's live version of "Sorceress".

Earlona Weary

Anderson Paak's album with NoWorries ("Yes Lawd!") is his BEST album hands down. 0 skips, I promise!

Brianna Campbell

I was obsessed with Jordan’s music when he first dropped. Now I have to revisit his catalog

Storm

Byrdgang is affiliated with Jim Jones. Max B was signed to Jim Jones before they started beefing. Some good song he was featured on are “G’s Up” and “Baby Girl” by Jim Jones. Once you get into Jim Jones im sure you guys will listen to more Camron and Dipset.

Kenydell Gaither

Also Anderson .Paak & B.J. the Chicago Kid team up again on this track: "The Waters". A MUST LISTEN FOR SURE!

KAZBAAH

GREAT WORK GUYS! Kai, It's funny that you mentioned @1:01:26 how much your friend "adores" Prince. Prince actually has a song called "Adore" that would be a great track for you & Dad to react to. His vocal range is "out of this world"!

KAZBAAH

Great selections 🖤

Cindy

I forgot all about Gorillaz! Another great P.C. Reaction. My suggestion this week would be "Moving down the line" by Raphael Saadiq. His music is a hybrid form of classic soul, rb, rock n roll, psychedelic funk but recontextualized with a modern sound. "Good Man" and "Never Give You Up" ft Stevie wonder & CJ are other great songs by him. He rose to fame as a member of Tony! Toni! Tone! (which ive seen a ton of requests for. He co-wrote/produced a ton of top charting songs, including two songs you have reacted to "Crane in the Sky" and "Lady." Will you guys be reacting to Sade at any point? Thanks for the great content as always

Precious

I was going to suggest Tamia! Great suggestion.

Ola Zanea

Mystikal 1) Danger 2)Shake your Ass

Zina

Lloyd 1) You 2)Tru 3)Get it Shawty

Zina

Maxwell is a must. He’s a pioneer of neo soul. He basically introduced the world to the genre along with E. Badu of course. Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite (Grammy Nominated) is amazing! If you do an entire album, it’s more than deserving. I’d recommend to start with his first track the same way we were introduced to him by beginning with his song Ascension. Followed by: This Woman’s Work Pretty Wings (Grammy Award) Listening with headphones is ideal, lots of panning in his tracks

Jocie G

Cry For You - Jodeci (legendary 90’s R&B group) Back to Love - Robert Glasper (feat SIR & Alex Isley) (R&B) Shine - Robert Glasper (feat D Smoke & Tiffany Gouché) (Hip Hop)

Adrienne

Akon 1) Locked up ft Styles P 2)Don't matter 3)Sorry blame it on me Akon has been credited for finding Lady Gaga and signing her to his label. Where she did her debut album The Flame. 1) Bad Romance 2)Just Dance

Zina

India. Arie 1) I am light 2) Brown Skin 3)Chocolate High ft Musiq Soulchild

Zina

Hey, just subscribed, but have been enjoying you guys on YouTube for a while, I recommend you listening to when I’m in your arms- Cleo Sol, All night- Beyoncé, until the end of time- coco jones and Leon Thomas version, or I’ve been in love- Jungle

Jai Husband

I also recommend "Cool Like That" by Digable Planet !!

Olivia Bernard

Thank you for this! I highly recommend Lianne La Havas- Elusive or Chrisette Michelle- Fragile !!!

Olivia Bernard

Some suggestions I have, 1. Toy soldiers by Eminem 2. Better in time Leona Lewis

Kaitlyn Randall

This was nice. I recommend the more accessible Pigeonometry by Aesop Rock. Keep up the great work gentlemen. 💯

Check Mate

Kenyon Dixon “Lucky” or “On My Mind”. He’s a very talented current R&B singer. MC Lyte “Paper Thin”. She’s a female rapper that was out the same time period as Queen Latifah. Common ft. Mary J. Blige “Come Close”.

Nicole

Great suggestion! Adore is a beautiful song! As a die hard Prince fan what I love most about him is the fact that he wrote, produced and orchestrated all of his songs (and many hits for other artists). He’s a phenomenally talented self taught musician and has his own distinct sound of which you can hear influences in many artists that came after him (such as Miguel, Ro James, etc.). They should check out his Wiki page for a little background on him. He was a very interesting character and I get how his personality and music may not be everyone’s cup of tea but his talent is undeniable. I wish he was still with us.

Nicole

You know, I vaguely remember Tower of Power from those days ... thanks for the rec. (dad)

The FrontRoom

We need O.G.C Da storm album

Super hilarious

We did Cranes in the Sky and loved it. Thanks for your rec’s. (Dad)

The FrontRoom

Ah, Gorrillaz! That was so nostalgic, I hadn't listened to that song in years! Next songs to explore: - Jill Scott - Le BOOM Vent Suite - Maxwell - Pretty Wings - Solange - Cranes In The Sky

It's Sybil

The song with Anderson Paak and the Jordan Rakei one were beautiful discoveries. I loved it, thank you for that. As for India Aarie , my favorite song is The Truth .

Kamanda Hickey

i recommend both GZA, Liquid Swords also E40 "sideways" both songs are bangers

will brewer

Great video and an awesome format. I think you would enjoy “I’ve committed murder” (gang starr remix) with Macy Gray & Mos Def.

Valter

Can I suggest these? Tamia: Move On My Heart | Fantasia: Summertime | Mariah Carey: Vision of Love |I Don't Wanna Cry, Fantasy w OBD | Brandy: Angel in Disguise, Almost Doesn't Count | Prince: Adore, Diamonds and Pearls | Tribe Called Quest: I want to say everything. You've done so many of the Soulquarians but not a lot of Tribe, unless I missed it. But you gotta do Scenario. You gotta do Scenario.

Shaquea White

Feel Good Inc!!! My favorite part was always the ha-ha-ha-ha-ha.

Shaquea White

Keke Wyatt

Aaisha

Maybe have ur dad react to some Donny Hathaway “a song for you”— it’s a masterpiece and his voice is everything

Janhann Turner

PLEASE CAN WE FINALLY GET TO LOGIC? HIS SONG METROPOLIS WOULD BE A GOOD ONE! LOVE YOU GUYS

Robert Boyd

Tower of power's What is hip released in 1973 and this r&b funk band is still touring.

Zina

That Drake freestyle is so good

SlumpJones

Well. I wish I suggested better Dj quik song. I just picked random one out of the ones I like. Glad you enjoyed it. 1. 2Pac - N.I.G.G.A. [Never Ignorant About Getting Goals Accomplished] Feat. Jadakiss 2. The Game - Don't Trip Feat. Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Will.I.am 3. Styles P - Good Times 4. GZA - Liquid Swords 5. AZ - Problems

Ziomek Young

My suggestions for the next episode. West Coast Bay area rap- E40 and Too Short, "rapper's ball" or Mac Dre "feeling myself" Texas rap- Devin the dude "Almighty dollar" or Paul Wall "sitting sideways"

Richard and Raya

Great songs guys, love the interactions. Here's a little info on DJ quik. He is a West Coast legend that has been involved in projects to this day. He is credited with being the first to claim his hood (tree top piru) on songs. Another one of his songs to check out is called "tonight". Was a little more mainstream I think you'll like it.

Richard and Raya

Love the Friday show fellas! Thank you!! Only one suggestion.. look up Coast Contra. They are a newer group that are a complete throwback to the best 90s rap. I would suggest their “Family Ties” freestyle. And they list their lyrics on the video.. so less work for you, Kai!

Rizo

Gotta hear me some Maxwell! (dad)

The FrontRoom

Thanks for the Friday present :) My suggestion would be: Run The Jewels - Early

André Monteiro

Good call on the Me'shell song. Many don't know that she's the original 🎯

Hodge House

Dad here. We reacted to Ms Georgia Fornia, it’s up on Patreon and YT. That song has really really grown on my since then, and I suggested to Kai we cover more of him.

The FrontRoom

The DJ Quik contributed song on Pac's All Eyes, -Heartz of Men- It was my favorite track for years and I'd ❤️ to see a reaction. It's somewhat Valentines themed 🫶🏼 or -Unconditional Love (can't remember if you've heard it)

Crystal

I ❤️ back in the day by Ahmad. I saw it got overlooked last time so I'd like to second this suggestion!

Crystal

I can't wait for you guys to jump into some Maxwell. His name is synonymous with Neo Soul, he has a voice like no other and his instrumentation is phenomenal. The Womans Worth is beautiful, also Ascension and Pretty Wings. He also has a great song with Alicia Keys called Fire We Make.

The Afro Buddha

I second those last two!! 👍🏾

Jen M

Same!!! And Feel the Vibes was definitely a vibe!! 🔥

Jen M

Kai.... are you a listener of BIG KRIT?? I love his music 🎶 My favs are: Return of 4Eva, Pick Yourself Up, & Energy (contains Jill Scott sample)....

Lady LaReux

One additional suggestion: if the song has a video, why not just go straight to the video and react to both at the same time? 🤷🏽‍♀️ With that being said, might I suggest, “Window Seat” by Erykah Badu? 😂🫣😬

Jen M

E-40 - Tell Me When to Go!!!!

bxgtrxppy

So glad you all reacted to BJ the Chicago Kid!!! Sorry I didn't give a specific song title but "Feel the Vibes" is a great start. It doesn't showcase BJ as much vocally. My choice(s) would be: Church, Other Side, & Aiight Side note: When Dad said the name of DJ Quik's song, I HOLLERED 😆

Lady LaReux

The Cherelle song was a extended 12"inch version ment for the clubs, the original is much shorter. Here is some more to check out: Heavy D - Some Body For Me Guy - Groove Me Original Flavor - Can I get Open Camp Lo - Luchini De La Soul - Me MySelf and I

djhyjak

Guaranteed bangers fellas, I promise

Luis Camposano

Common - I used to love her Nas - Fetus Bilal - For You Big Pun - Deep Cover 98 ft Fat Joe Lana Del Rey - Florida Keys or West Coast Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know or Are You Mine

Luis Camposano

Jasmine, you are so very welcome! (dad)

The FrontRoom

Someone recommended Anytime by Brian McKnight, but I know of two other R&B songs that use the same beat/rhythm/melody: -Outside Your Door by Meshell Ndegeochello (her version was first I believe and her debut album is 🔥) -See Through Love by Tank and Chris Brown So any (or all) of these three songs would make for a good listen.

Jen M

I enjoy spending like lunch breaks every Friday and watching this series! I would LOVE to see you and your dad react to… 1. Street Military - Kick Door Burglar 2. Street Military - Next Episode 3. Schoolboy Q - Hoover Street 4. Richie Rich - Do G’s Get To Go To Heaven ( Tupac tribute months after passing) 5. Mr Mike - Everytime I Close My Eyes 6. DJ Quik - Dollaz + Sense ( Dissed MC - Eiht) 7. DJ Screws mix of Anita Ward - Ring My Bell ( YouTube “ DJ Screw Anita Ward Ring My Bell” and be amazed.)

Htx_Screwww

Oh thank you for reviewing The Gorillaz. My baby sister LOVED them and she loved this song. Brings back so many memories of her making me listen to all the music she discovered on our drive home from picking her up at school. She passed away almost 8 years ago now…she would be turning 30 this year. She would have loved you guys too! Thanks a lot for this! ❤️

Jasmine Felton

Ok, Kai, since your friend “adores” Prince, please react to Adore by Prince!! I mean you walked right into that. 🤷🏽‍♀️😂 Every Prince fan loves Adore! I’m sure dad would like it.

Jen M

Loving this format introducing new music not just to you guys but all your followers. A couple of bits that are a bit left field choices A$ap rocky ft rod Stewart & migel Everyday Jeezy ft jay-z seen it all Fabulous & jadakiss Theme music Danny brown really doe Any pusha T.

Alex Benson

Great like always…would love for y’all to check out Maxo Kream “Grannies” Vince Staples “When Sparks Fly” Drake “Closer to my dreams freestyle” Benny The Butcher “Bron”

Brandon Jackson

I know Dad is a fan of Nas and his lyricism so I want to highly recommend (Live at the BBQ by the main source) it is Nas’ debut on a recorded song. I recommend watching the video because it’s a recorded live performance he was only 17 in the video. His verse is so legendary especially for his age.

Anthony Mendoza

Please react to the following: R&B songs -anniversary by Tony! Toni! Toné! -promises by Cleo sol -before I let you go by blackstreet -my first love by avant and keke Wyatt -where I wanna be by Donell jones -anytime by Brian McKnight - so anxious by ginuwine Hip hop/rap songs: -better dayz by 2pac -letter 2 my unborn by 2pac -ballad of a dead soulja by 2pac -silly girl by Murs -trying people by de la soul -modern man’s hustle by atmosphere - that! By Andre nickatina and equipto -bigger picture by big KRIT -make your move by hieroglyphics -cilvia demo by Isaiah Rashad -Johnny p’s caddy by Benny the butcher and j cole

Marco

Saturday Love seemed slow at the beginning because you listened to the Extended Version. Back in the 80s, there was several versions of the same song for the 45” LP/record. The radio version was much shorter.

Jen M

Loving the Friday format guys, I look forward to it

jeff baker

A couple of suggestions: Mint condition- Pretty brown eyes Tony tone toni- anniversary Ahmad- Back in the day Monica- Before you walk outta if my life. Toni Braxton- Love should have brought u home. New Edition- Mr. Telephone man Bobby Brown- Roni

Sheivon Jackson

Thanks guys, for checking out Jordan Rakei. I bought tickets for his concert in Amsterdam in September. Maybe he’ll be touring in your area too? Try Paolo Nutini’s Iron Sky (Abbey Road Live Session) as well. It will blow your mind!

Cindy

Phew, glad to know it ain’t just me! (dad)

The FrontRoom

Wow, good to know! We ‘ve had more than a few requests for De La Soul. (dad)

The FrontRoom

Tonight by DJ Quik is a classic. Also...he has a diss track about MC Eiht called dollars n sense. It's pretty brutal

jeff baker

Dad: “Now I don’t really know what the heck they’re talking about.” 😂 Same, Dad. Same. 😆

Jen M

Yesssss!! Love that y’all are doing this. FYI that’s Trugoy the Dove (RIP 🕊️) from De La Soul rapping on the gorillaz song!
