Wow! That was a tough one... Logan opening up about his heavy past is BIG! It's heavy and emotionally straining but this kind of event is part of our world too. IMHO, I really like how the characters are being revealed so far and how they get their turn in the limelight. It adds a lot to this sequel. Loving it, Bryce!

Kinda agreeing with this observation with some caveat. Yes redundancy is built in military chain of command. Caveat #1: there are very little details on the events succession during the Archon attack on S-Charlie; it may have erased a good portion of the defense cadre and/or communications, thus inducing chaos and a rapid defeat. Caveat #2: we have no information on the military doctrine, which could be similar to the present-day Russian concept of having middle officers and NCOs leading in combat. We see how this is faring in Ukraine (NB: NOT trying to add any opinion here, and NOT wanting to open any discussion)

Now we know the baggage Logan carries and the reason for his hatred of cowards… yet something is bothering me… ANY CAD user that is combat able would have stood his grown (if enough of his peers were there to support). Connor must have been a terrible officer to not have anyone loyal enough to stop him. As a service member I can tell you that fear for myself will make me run. Fear for my brothers will make me stay… he must not have had that. Also it’s weird that HIM leaving made the chain of command lapse… EVERY chain of command has secondary and third level of command responsibility. Even if all Officer pounded sand and deserted … the Senior enlisted would have stayed the course… so I call bullshit on Connor being the linchpin

It seems more like taking away from the story whatever it is. This whole book I’ve felt like the MC has become a side character who everyone else talks about but I’m not getting to see become more he’s literally grown like 2in and 2 levels this whole book and I have no idea why it matters because no one cares anymore!

Going to hp into the discussion with my perspective when the chapter drops, for sure, but leaving it here as well, because I am going through my DnD Chaotic phase... I am guessing this is about Logan's sister, and I think it is a subject that some people will naturally be triggered by, either as a result of a similar experience in their family or social circle, or simply because they feel they should gate-keep that type of issue for the sake of everyone else. However, I also feel the issue needs to be discussed in an appropriate way, especially in the context of mental health and trauma aftermath, both in terms of how they affect the victim but also the sensation of survivor's guilt. Bryce has shown a willingness to treat difficult subjects constructively and with sensitivity, so it is something I am on-board with and I trust that he will do a good job with it. So no pressure :P

I do think it's great when a character you create can take you by the hand and guide YOU down a path simultaneously unexpected, but also making sense in hindsight At least that's the vibe I am getting from that last bit.
