Dad reacts to Jay-Z - "Dec 4th" on Jay's Birthday!

I had to record this song today on December 4th (because of the nature of the song) and put it up on the same day. Hopefully that clears up anything confusion about this video not being up early on Patreon compared to YouTube! Thought it was still worth it to put on Patreon because it's ad free, hope you enjoy :)

You should play him some stuff from 4:44 and Everything is Love

Essence

That whole album has so much meaning to it. From front to back every song was made with such a intended purpose. From how him and beyonce almost split to almost losing his family, admitting how flawed his whole perspective on relationships were. And how naive he's been his whole career, to now seeing things for whats really important. Such a vivid display of his vulnerability. Even touches on society, with "story of OJ" and "moonlight" Takes things back to his roots with "Bam" and "Marcy Me". Exposes how sheisty the music industry is in "caught thier eyes". So much depth in that album. Plus the meaning behind tge title of the album 444. If u look it up In numerology studies 444 signifies clarity and decisiveness in your life and love. That everything you've been thru lead u to exactly where u need to be. . BTW fun fact : jayz birthday is jan 4 Beyonce Birthday is Sept 4 And he named his1st and only daughter at the time "Blue Ivy" cause "Ivy" in roman numerals is "IV" which is 4 . .. jayz is really big on the science of numerology so its no coincidence he named this album 444 being that this album was based on him getting his family back

Robert

You should do the whole black album or reasonable doubt. Would love to see more JAY-Z

julio real

Yea prior to this album he was flirting with the idea of retiring for a while. I belive this was around the same time def Jam made him the president of def jam records and he felt like he accomplished all he could as a rapper. I mean at that time he could of retired and most would have agree he was at his peak so going out on top feeling like he had nothing left to prove made sense, plus the consistent run that he went on from the early 2000s to the black album wouldn't get much argument from anyone that ot could get much better.. like he says on that album. "What more can he say"... but luckily we were all wrong and his retirement didn't last long. Cause he definitely grew evolved and put out so much more great music after that

Robert

I forgot why he decided to retire. But that’s why at the end of this song he says those lines about fading to black.

Kenydell Gaither

What?! I had no idea... Why was it supposed to be?

The FrontRoom

Good point! I didn't realize he mentioned it - thanks for the correction Anthony and appreciate you watching.

The FrontRoom

Another interesting thing is that this was supposed to be his retirement album.

Jay spoke about his dad not being there in the beginning of the second verse. He was saying teachers couldn’t reach and his mom couldn’t beat ‘em long enough to match the pain of his dad not there. Which basically led him down the wrong path

BigHomieAnt

Beautiful song. Thank you for the backstory, I didn’t know the full picture. I think 444 would be a great album too

The FrontRoom

He does. I’ll put a Patreon poll up for next weekend!

Your dad needs to react to some A Tribe Called Quest

Nice choice for December 4th. I'm glad your dad liked it and being that he pointed out how much he liked his mom on this song you have to play him "Smile" off the 444 album were he he really breaks down what his mom went thru, actually being gay her whole life and had to hide it cause she was too scared to come out and then kept it a secret after he became successful to protect him from any negative criticism that might hurt his career. He starts the song with addressing that and how it doesn't matter to him as long as she's happy and can smile and the song just goes on with some of the smartest and wittiest lyrics bar after bar in a way only jayz can do. Its one of my all time favorites and to finish it all off his mom gets on the track at the end and actually recites a poem she wrote thats absolutely amazing. I know your dad would absolutely love it. You should 100% check it out. You won't regret it!
