Commission Process

Hey y'all! I thought it might be interesting to share with y'all what my process is for working on something like a fullbody commission for a customer. (Shoutout to @lycaos_wolf on Twitter for commissioning an image of his fursona. Ref image I was working from is by JDL_werewolf)

For the sketch, I'll paste refs directly only the canvas and just kind of scribble things out. I tend to have a pretty strong vision of what I want when I start sketching, and try to keep my marks really loose to push the movement behind a pose.  Then I'll use CSP's capabilities to make tiny adjustments to correct anatomy errors!

Usually I'll skip straight to linework from that loose sketch stage, although in some cases I will do a couple layers of "Pencil" to refine details. Just not this time!

Flats are pretty straightforward. CSP's paint bucket tool makes coloring super fast and easy, so I decided to play a little and draw Professor Scritch's patterned sweater myself instead of using a public domain texture like I do in my comics.

Shading! I keep it simple with multiple/screen layers for shadow and light, with a low opacity Overlay layer on top to unify my colors a little.

Hope y'all liked this! Please feel free to let me know if there's specific parts of my process you'd like to learn more about :)
