So this is how you use videogames to become more confident in real life. So the first thing is that we need a simpler definition of confidence. So for now confidence is simply belief in your ability to learn how to successfully complete a task.
To become more confident you have to practice being confident. Which means you must observe yourself without judging yourself as you do something you will most likely fail at more times than you will succeed and you must continue.
You will fail in ways fantastic and small. And each will be a lesson if you let it. Think of each new interaction with another person as a chance to practice that confidence. No one know anything about you until you tell them. And the people looking most to take advantage of you are the ones looking for glimpse of lack of it.
Small wins are helpful here. Because you cannot believe in yourself when you dont have much evidence. And you cant get that evidence if you are not confident enough to seek it out.
That lack of confidence is why I've struggled with fighting games in the past. I have lost many matches before they even started because I was afraid that my opponent was better than me. I also didn't want to be cocky and assume I was better than someone.
But confidence in the form of belief in your ability to successfully learn and execute a task does not have to also involve the assumption of being better. It just involves you assuming you are capable.
I remember rhe first day I practiced confidence on my own. I had never ridden public transit before in my life and i was really afraid being in the big city. It is those little interactions that used get me. All I could think of is what bad thing would happen because I decided to take the bus. Would I get lost? Would I take too long paying and get berated?
But one day i decided I wanted to practice confidence and I just got on a bus and road from point A to Point B to Point C and Back to A. .And i never told anyone until now. I was very proud of myself.
So to you, I challenge you to challenge yourself. Why not set a small goal and reach it? Maybe challenge yourself to read a short story from beginning to end? Maybe you might pick up a game you stopped playing and start playing it again for 20 minutes. Even watching a youtube tutorial on something new you'd like to learn.
Whatever it is. Don't share it till youve done it. Ive attached a clip of a fight between me a d5 rank vs a b5 in soul calibur which is quite a rank difference by several thousand gamea. In the past I wouldve lost before the game started but now I know rank means nothing next to confidence. I hope you enjoy and talk with you soon.
