Input needed - GUESTS?

There's an idea bouncing around in my brain like two angry coked up businessmen are playing squash with it...
But I'm trying to nail down a format. Long and short I want a guest and something to do with media

This also might be branching off itself idk, sorry to be vague but I wouldn't want to hype you all up for me getting something exciting done then realise I'm just too sleepy.

Ideas welcome!
Also next episode is being edited as we speak. I do still need to do something with the letterboxd round up soon, however I am just too sleepy.

Love ya!

I don't know how it would work, but given you both love horror, I'd be stoked to see something where you interview Dead Meat; either James and/or Chelsea.

To expand on this idea, there could be a small logo with a "channel call sign". Usually a 4 letter code. In the US, stations in the West start with "K" and the East start with "W." Philly's PBS station is WHYY, so I was thinking "WHYU" if going for an NA style. For a European style, maybe "Public Access Limited", both a play on the punk band Public Image Limited and the PAL standard. Episodes can be rated from "NTSC-ya later!" to "A real PAL", with nonsensical puns in between. Alternatively, ratings could be columns of pros vs cons, with the numbers of each becoming it's "Aspect Ratio" (16 pros, 9 cons would be 16:9). Of course, the wider the better.

The brain cell came back to me. There's a wealth (maybe the wrong word) of public access television crap available on YouTube. Perhaps a series where you and a guest pick and watch an episode of a no-budget TV show and try to pick apart why it exists or who thought it was a good idea could be entertaining. A title like "Public Excess TV" or "Who Asked For This?" Could work.

But if there is a review component, you need to have a crappy motion graphic scale 1-10 and Brenda's face that slides up and down. And you're like "Oooh! Let's find out what Blen thinks !!" It slowly rises, then shoots down to 1! I would watch 1,000 episodes!!

I had this idea for an intro for your new show format: Firstly, an establishing shot of Bouphe in front of her vhs tape collection. Bouphe has a finger on her chin, with a quizzical look to match as she searches for the right tape 🤔. Woah! She has found it! A pile of blank tapes with their Scotch / Maxell covers on, labels obscured from the viewer, bends down and collects one. Bouphe walks up to a combo VHS TV and inserts the tape. Screen plays a modified Soft Focus intro, logo raised, and the title of the new show reveals underneath. The idea that each tape represents a guest and is selected specifically for that episode. For the actual show format itself, well I dunno tbh, but I think if it was solely film reviews with a guest, it would clash with both Soft Focus and YOMP imo.

Maybe a 'Review' review type thing. You pick a film your guest likes and go through some curated 'interesting' reviews (not naming the reviewer). The guest can 'defend' the film against the review or they might even agree with the review but then explain why they still like it etc. I think going through some of the 'out there' reviews for films you and your guests like could be really interesting.

My first thought was "Softer Focus", where you and a guest start off discussing a film/movie of their choice, but then I realized a more accurate but less concise title would be "Focus So Soft It's Just A Fucking Blur"... Then I thought a virtual awards show where you give guests different virtual "awards" based on how right or wrong their tastes are would be way funnier. The more arbitrary and vibes-based, the better. It could be called "Sophie's Trophies." The word "Loafie" could be used as a term to describe lo-fi VHS-loving couch potatoes... Or Bren. That's all I got, time to pass the brain cell.

A "what is the context of this scene" segment with guests could be fun. You could show the guest a clip of a funny strange or ridiculous scene, and they would try to come up with what is going on. You could ask them what they think the movie or show is about in general. Or you could ask them how they think the scene fits in to the media you've been discussing.

Maybe you could like pick a movie and then have a discussion on whether or not it's a "rip-off" of another movie? Like is Nukie a rip-off of E.T. and why? Maybe one has to defend why it isn't a rip-off, while the other person has to be on the attack?

Loving this - for a format idea, how about a sort of thing where you're the proprietor of 'Purgatory's Video Rental Store', where the guest brings in their best/favourite/meaningful "bad" movie for discussion - (and you could have intros of the guest take the form of the rental card, for example) and then through the discussion, you as the owner of the store and the guest come to a consensus of whether that movie is returned to Movie Heaven or Movie Hell and what that movie's 'late fee' is - with the fee of course not always being a monetary value, but something related to the movie/piece of media in some way (eg say it's a movie about a giant cat the fine could be something like "15 years cleaning out the litter tray").

Ben Borthwick

could give Brandon Tenold or Cecil from GoodBadflicks a shout and see if they want to do something?? there's also Rob Hill who wrote and runs the Bad Movie Bible youtube that would be someone awesome to do a video essay on a genre or series with. I'd also suggest reaching out to Kasey aka Diana Prince(ss Of Dorkness) aka Darcy the Mail Girl who writes for Fangoria and works on the Last Drive In with Joe Bob Briggs, shes an ubernerd and is always really active on social media and likes to make content, podcasts and such if horror and exploitation cinema is the topic you're thinking about Bouphe

Toshkien

I think Ashens would be a fun guest to have!

ExesNL

Oh I luckily have no shortage of guests! More that I'm looking for a format that is interesting and maybe unique who knows!

Bouphe

Would love to know Brenda's thoughts on the movie's she loves to watch, if you can't get Brenda then Osie or Boba will have to do

Doomsailor

Haha! Unfortunately rich Evans has to give the go-ahead and he is a notorious tyrant
