Her body tried to give up, but the doctors and nurses won't.
In the south eastern island region, a remotely living girl was airlifted to the next larger hospital, after suffering from what turned out to be appendicitis for a long period of time. Arriving in critical condition and with a high fever, she was diagnosed quickly and stabilized as much as possible.
Her appendix had ruptured and infected her whole abdominal cavity.
Before her parents could even make the long trip to the hospital, the barely conscious girl is brought into the operating room, for the surgeons to open and clean through her entire abdomen.
the surgeons are nervous about her horrible condition.
"She's burning up. I think she can't even tell what'S going on anymore. If only she was treated sooner. I feel sorry for the poor thing."
"Doctor, we need to get her open as quickly as possible. Let's roll her into the OR."
"How is she taking the anesthesia?"
"Should Í skip the catheter?"
"No, with her temperature we need to put extra emphasis on controling her hydration. You lay the catheter, I'll disinfect all of her top."
The girl had already been taken fully out of conciousness, intubated and the ventilator had relieved her of having to breathe. The surgeons were quickly moving towards opening her up, so they could asses the situation inside and begin taking the necessary steps towards saving the girl.
But before they could even make the first long incission right down the middle of the girl's sweaty brown belly, the stress of the infection caused her body to try and give up.
Maybe at home, but not in the hospital!
To correct the girl's failing heart rythm, additional medication is quickly administered and the defibrillator is charged. We will not let her die this easily!
"Alright, I got 200. Clear?"
"Clear."
"Clear. Schocking!"
*THUMP*
"What we got?"
"Still nothing."
"Okay, 300 and again."
"Clear!"
"Clear! Shocking!"
*THUMP*
*Looks at monitor*
*Beep...Beep...Beep...*
"We got her back."
"I'm so glad...Would have been way to easy for her to go like that."
The life that's on the table:
An 18 year old girl, who lives with her family on a tiny island they own. She has just graduated highschool and is enjoying her extended summer break before she will leave for the city to chase her dream of becoming a marine biologist.
Her hobbies are diving, drawing and playing with her little sister.
We are not letting her go.
