#MakeThisBattle Feedback - Feb 10th

Hear ye., hear ye, this session of #MakeThisBattle shall begin. I’m going to try to go full No-Google on this one folks. That’s right. No phones, no cheating, only the knowledge I possess about the matchups suggested.   I learn quickly, but I know very little

- nice peter

Here we go…

Florence Nightingale vs Hippocrates [submitted by Foxdoc]

Fun, but I don’t know why. I have obviously heard the name Florence Nightingale, but I don’t know any of her stories for certain. And I see its 200 years since she was born. Neat. I think Hippocrates started what we call “modern medicine”. A scientific pursuit of health using a doctor caring for a patient with scientific methods. I think. I know they named an oath after him. The Hippocratic Oath is something all doctors take, but I don’t know what it says. I think Florence was a nurse, maybe the founder of “modern nursing”. If that’s true, this is a solid suggestion. God, I want to Google so bad. I'll research more into these two.

GLaDOS Vs Rick Sanchez [submitted by Dragonsblood23]

I give up, I just can’t do this without Google. I’m supposed to know who GLaDOS is, but honestly I can never remember which letters to capitalize, and then I’m just exhausted. I know he’s a video game character thing. I don’t know from what. I’m not giving up. No google. I love Rick Sanchez, but I don’t think he could come into ERB for a while. If he did, it would have to be Lloyd or someone else who feels ready to take on that character. Would it be live action? Animated? Is Rick Sanchez finally the answer to the animated battle question? Is it Homer Simpson vs Rick Sanchez? That gets me excited somehow. It certainly gets me more excited than Rick Sanchez going up against an artificially intelligent computer system from the video game series Portal. GLaDOS later appeared in The Lab and Lego Dimensions. The character was created by Erik Wolpaw and Kim Swift and voiced by Ellen McLain. I used Bing.

James Brown Vs Vito Corleone [submitted by Danteson1]

This is still very awesome. I’ve seen this one floating around, and I’ve loved it every time. It’s great. Battle of the Mafia & Soul Godfathers. The contrast in voices alone is just spectacular. I don’t need to google a thing, there’s so much that we all know about these two, and so much juicy backstory that can be referenced.  It makes me feel….. good!

Mansa Musa Vs Black Panther [submitted by Mavicartel2003]

Is Ask Jeeves still a thing? I’m going to find out, on Bing. It’s still there, but its just a Google Search bar. How embarrassing. Okay, so Mansa Musa was a conqueror in Africa in the 1300's. That’s pretty cool. And he was also very, very rich. I like the contrast of African Badasses, for sure. I feel like Shaka Zulu did a good job of covering that character archetype, and Black Panther, while awesome, is probably not viable right now because it’s too soon for another MCU character. All that said, it’s a cool match-up and a good suggestion. A-

Queen Elizabeth II Vs Betty White [submitted by Lileagle01]

Hahaha lol, A+. That’s really funny. That could be really funny. I don’t know who the hell to cast but it’s just a funny visual and idea. I don’t think Lloyd could play Bette White in the modern ERB universe. (as you may have learned we had an old demo idea to do Bette White vs Betty Page and Lloyd was gonna play White) It’s a very creative and funny suggestion, I love the comedy potential, the contrast, there’s no obvious beef; but they can obviously beef. It’s great. Both are smart and clever and completely different. Can envisage the lyrics being some real harsh shit. Lovely.

Greta Thunberg Vs Henry Ford [submitted by ilanwoll]

And finally. Wow, what a banger. A very current, extremely polarizing, historical, cool suggestion that I did not see coming. The info is nice. The contrast is just delicious. Henry Ford has excellent parries to a lot of Greta’s attacks. It could be a very nice back and forth.   Extremely creative. It’s one of those suggestions that feels obvious once you see it, but man I never would have thought of that. If she wins a Nobel prize this might be an almost certainty.

Thanks for joining this session of #MakeThisBattle! I walk away a changed man, with a second rate search engine.

The next round of submissions for #makethisbattle is now open! We need a new theme. Let's go with 'Land, Air & Sea'.

At least two match-ups selected for feedback will feature a character who is well known for their exploits on land, air or sea. It could be a pilot. A racing driver. An admiral. Or anyone associated with the basic theme. Think big.

As ever you can ignore this theme completely if you wish!

Same rules apply as normal. Three suggestions per person. You can post them in the comments below, email them to erbpatreon@gmail.com or post them on the Discord server in the dedicated '#make-this-battle' channel.

Deadline for submissions is... 9am PT on Monday February 24th.

Comments

Yes, that would be amazing

Huntly23 Doge

Yes his name escaped me. Cesar millan

Byron Morales-Beza

They already did Jaques Cousteau, so I doubt they'd repeat him so soon, if at all.

Last Rookie

By THE dog whisperer do you mean Caesar Milan, or someone else? There are other shows, but his has been popular enough to receive mentions on other shows.

I wanted to edit my comment and add a bit more context to it. When I had originally read this post, I saw the no goggle and thought that meant that you may not have wanted any info on the characters unless you needed it, but anyway I wanted to provide a little bit of an explanation on why I picked them. Land Dale Earnhardt vs. Evil Knievel You've got a racecar driver vs. A motorcycle stunt man. When I originally thought of this battle, I had though that Knievel died in a accident, but this is not the case. With that being said, Earnhardt did, so that could be a fun jab both ways, plus the clash if car vs. Bike sounds fun to me. Air Amelia Earhart vs. Chuck Noland Noland, for those who may not know, is Tom Hanks character from castaway. In a way Nolan fits all three themes with crashing from a plane to being stuck on an IsLAND and also lost at sea, but the main thing that hits me with this battle crash landing for both. Plus obvious Wilson joke and plenty of conspiracy theories to dive into for Ameila Sea Aquaman vs. Ernest Hemingway Aquaman has seen his popularity soar with the release of his movie and deffintly fits the sea theme! One of the constant Jokes thrown at him is how he can talk to fish, so I thought a fisherman would be a good opponent. So doing a quick Google search reveals the Ernest Hemmingway believe it or not is the most famous fishmen out there. So not only does this battle out to sea-men against each other but it's classic literature vs comic books!

OmgWtfLolFtwBrb

Avatar Aang and korra vs link and zelda

Ivan Lima

Captain Hook Vs Long John Silver for best fictional pirate. Optional Captain Jack Sparrow barging in. Lightning McQueen vs K.I.T.T. (Not happening without animation, I know.) Neil Armstrong vs. Yuri Gagarin

Richard

Land Dale Earnhardt vs. Evil Knievel Air Amelia Earhart vs. Chuck Noland Sea Aquaman vs. Ernest Hemingway

OmgWtfLolFtwBrb

Phoenix Wright vs Atticus Finch

Minseok Kim

Charles Lindbergh (Lucky Lindy) vs Maverick (Top Gun)

Josh Packer

Listen I don't know much about Alex Jones. all I know is that he got banned from YouTube and people are convinced that he's Bill Hicks as a different person. I would rather have Jay Jonah Jameson on the grounds that he is the editor of The daily bugle and wants to get rid of Spider-Man just like William Randolph Hearst was the editor for the San Francisco examiner and wanted to get rid of Charlie Chaplin do you see the connection now

Daniel Allen Barnes

Amelia Earhart vs The Red Baron

Shawn Ravenfire

Or maybe WRH vs Alex Jones?

Shawn Ravenfire

For Rich Sanchez, wouldn't Lex Luthor be a better opponent? Two of the self-proclaimed smartest men in the world/galaxy. Both are also smart-ass psychopaths with crap loads of inventions. Hank

hatalbot@yahoo.com

Land, Sea, and Air... okay. Erwin Rommel (Desert Fox) vs Rupert Murdoch (FOX news empire) David Livingstone (explorer) vs Maurice Sendak (Where the Wild Things Are) Howard Hughes (the Spruce Goose) vs Maverick (lost his friend Goose)

Asher Rasco

Amelia Earhart vs. Ferdinand Magellan. Both tried to circumnavigate the globe and didn't personally make it.

James A. Whitney

Maybe not your best, but I think it's pretty funny. :)

James A. Whitney

For a more Chinese flavor of seafaring, how about Zheng He the Fleet Admiral vs. Ching Shih the Pirate Queen? #MakeThisBattle

Leo M. R.

Okay, for a suggestion based on the theme, I definitely gotta go with Usain Bolt (fastest man on land) vs. Michael Phelps (fastest man in the water).

Leo M. R.

Suggestions for the future: Barbara Walters vs Oprah; Gethro LeRoy Gibbs vs Magnum P.I.

Connie D

QEII vs Betty White; James Brown vs Vito Corleone; Florence Nightingale vs Hippocrates

Connie D

That is a very good suggestion but mine is of historical importance because William Randolph Hearst ran a newspaper, he was a media mogul, he was also married to one of the biggest movie stars and a movie was kind of based off of him called citizen Kane even though Orson Welles played it off like it wasn't made after William Randolph Hearst. the guy also had tie-ins with Charlie Chaplin in one of the biggest controversies in cinema history. when I was watching Spider-Man I just thought about it and I'm like you know Jay Jonah Jameson will go really well against one of the biggest newspaper men in his time

Daniel Allen Barnes

J. Jonah Jameson vs Alex Jones with Walter Cronkite third party

JustGamer

Sir Francis Drake vs Long John Silver Amelia Earhardt vs Manfred von Richthofen Vince McMahon vs Spartacus

Red Claw

The Boys v The Watchmen

What do we want, time travel. When do we want it. That's Irrelevant!

Icarus v Aquaman

What do we want, time travel. When do we want it. That's Irrelevant!

Neptune v Richard Branson

What do we want, time travel. When do we want it. That's Irrelevant!

Captain Planet and the Planeteers vs Earth Wind & Fire. (Not my best suggestion, I admit.)

Shawn Ravenfire

Yes too soon for MCU but imagine this The Tramp (Charlie Chaplin) vs Iron Man Or I thought of this too Kyle Ren Vs (Virtually anyone who has an unhealthy obsession with continuing a legacy)

Josh Packer

There’s a live performance of James Brown on YouTube that’s really caught my attention. He performed it on Soul Train. Man that guy can move. He’s also got a strong voice. I wanna see him in a battle.

M.F. Cortez

Lief Erikson v Buzz Aldrin, Aquaman v Cthulu, Jiro (from Jiro Loves Sushi) v Jacques Cousteau

Girish Menon

John Wick vs Neo Anderson with Ted Theodore Logan as a 3rd party (all roles played by Keanu Reeves)

Daniel Allen Barnes

J.Jonah Jameson vs William Randolph Hearst (newspaper men)

Daniel Allen Barnes

Jimi Hendrix the greatest electric guitar player that ever lived versus Les Paul the man who actually invented the electric guitar

Daniel Allen Barnes

Pitbull vs the dog whisperer

Byron Morales-Beza

Horatio Nelson vs Isoroku Yamamoto

Callum Stott

Percy Jackson vs Michael Phelps

MC Fawful

Amelia Earhart vs. Charles Lindbergh George of the Jungle vs. Tarzan Indiana Jones vs. Jack Sparrow

Michael Rose

I feel like maybe Justin Roiland would be up to play Rick Sanchez in an ERB, he is an awesome guy all around and would be down to do it, but maybe there would be lots of network and copyright issues, sadly. Maybe it could be Rick Sanchez vs Uncle Stan from Gravity Falls, since Alex Hirsch is also a very chill down to earth guy. Legal issues aside, it would be awesome if possible.

Juakohawk

Arthur Phillip, the 1st New South Wales governor vs Billy Mitchel, the Father of the U.S. Air Force
