2024-12-31 12:17:48 +0000 UTCI hate I missed the live stream! Don’t know if it’s been mentioned(prolly has by now) but Kendrick is a Pulitzer Prize winner for his album Damn. He won it in 2018 I believe. The only rapper to achieve this! And yes he definitely is a poet! He started in a group called Black Hippie before he went solo( Yes, they are still great friends till this day and they have appeared in his most recent video). Cannot wait for you all to go on this journey, KDot is chefs kiss!!!

I think to truly appreciate music of different backgrounds you have to open your minded and omit personal bias. And you both did an amazing job taking that step in this reaction. His music is art. I think you guys should listen to his album to Pimp A Butterfly.

Some of his albums are highly conceptual and contextual so if you choose to listen to one song at a time, I would recommend always pulling up the lyrics on genius to get a quick summary for context for where it is in the album, etc. and then you can also get the background if you’re curious about a specific reference in the lyrics which isn’t clear (which there are a lot of in his music). Otherwise, there may be a lot of “let us know in the comments”s from you guys 😂 and I’m afraid you wouldn’t feel the full impact! His albums are truly masterpieces and he’s a great storyteller so just want you guys to enjoy them as much as possible!

I wish I knew a lot about him to help guide y'all but I only know the general amount. I know y'all said not to put recommendations in the chat, but, if you plan on watching his upcoming SuperBowl performance, you should watch his previous SuperBowl performance, it's greatly underrated. Also, great theory Ryan on the symbolism on the finger guns!

Even for the most avid Hip Hop listener you really have to take his songs in more than once and you will find more and more in each listen. Double and triple entendres, metaphors, poetry….He’s a truly amazing artist. Glad you guys are discovering him!
