LGR - The MiSTercade

https://youtu.be/CJBBfxX-E4c

It is once again time for some coverage of an exciting newish product in the retro scene: the MiSTercade. An excellent drop-in hardware emulation solution for JAMMA arcade machines!

Back when I got my Raiden II cabinet, I mentioned that I planned on taking a look at this one whenever I got the chance. And well, that time came a little sooner than expected since the MiSTer Addons website ended up getting the parts for a fresh batch not long after I posted that episode. So as soon as I got the "now in stock" waiting list email I jumped on the opportunity to buy a full kit.

Annnnd no surprise, this thing is fantastic. Sure it may not have the massive gamecount and customization offered by a JAMMA-equipped Raspberry Pi or PC solution, but what it does offer is next level accuracy and low latency vintage gaming that nothing else can currently touch. I was already excited about the future of the MiSTer in general, and now it's even more so with the arcade side of things! Shame about the added cost at the moment but yeah, supply chains and blah, so it goes for now.

I hope that this proves useful to some of you, or if nothing else kind of entertaining. I'll be putting something together for next week here soon but then after that I'm hitting the road again to do things at VCF Midwest in Illinois! Yay! It's such a fun show and I look forward to seeing a number of y'all there again :)

I'm putting down $100 for "whatever doomer headline comes up in the news next of 2030"

I'm putting $20 down on "the baryonic matter shortage of 2027".

When you're right you're right! I'll change and re-record a number of those solutions, thanks :)

Eeyeah. I'd be interested to see how well that joke ages. Hopefully it ages well.

Mr. Spectacals

Looks neat, but as you pointed out, the lack of support and the price is gonna be a turnoff for most people, unless they are looking for the level of accuracy and speed the MiSTER offers.

Lolz at the 2027 shout-out.

The bit for 2027 viewers played just as the clock hit 20:27, I choose to take that as a sign. Thanks for the great video, Clint. I love how the channel has been slowly shifting towards your other retro passions and even when my favourite videos are those where you open up old hardware to show us what's inside, this new content feels fresh. It is amazing how the Mister is revolutionizing the retro-gaming/computing scene and the possibilities its forks bring. Your video made me day-dream with a totally chameleonic cabinet where the name and lights change depending on which game you've setup on the Mistercade... How cool would that be? I know is not preserving much, but still. Now, for some unsolicited -albeit constructive- feedback, it feels to me that the word "solution" comes up quite a bit during the episode, specially during the first 2 or 3 minutes. It is silly and maybe most folks would not mind, but I felt like sharing. Anyway, thanks as always for the entertaining content!

I kind of wish I didn't work for an amusement operator so arcade machines didn't seem like work XD
