BEHIND THE SCENES #16 - Omake #43: "half dog"

ayo!!! its behind the scenes time again here at gacha girl hq!!!

so, this update was based once again off something directly from my life... or, i guess, more of just a general concept?? which is to say, all the weird and frankly kind of abhorrent ways i eat food!!

i'm sure if you've been keeping up with author's notes and these posts and such, you're aware by now that penny is based on me in a lot of ways-- and this trait was pretty much mapped directly onto her from me... she has a tendency to eat things in ways that other people find funny and/or kind of nasty--the hotdog is one example, but another one from my life is this godawful chili that i make sometimes, usually when we're low on other food in the house

the ingredients for this culinary masterpiece include the following: beans, pasta sauce, mayonnaise and a handful of random spices from the cupboard! you mix it all up in a bowl, and then just. eat it. cold. mmmmm........ yummy..... :)

actually, there's a lot of things that probably shouldn't be eaten cold that i eat cold (and by proxy, so does penny)--for example, canned soup!! which tastes notably like metal when eaten cold, and is like, unarguably worse than just popping it in the microwave for two minutes or whatever. but that doesn't stop me! i also enjoy cold leftovers, but i feel like that's a little more normal, lol

and then of course there's mayonnaise nuggets..... which is just chicken nuggets dipped in mayonnaise. looking at it now, i think there's a trend here, which is mostly just like, half-way deconstructed meals that i make with whatever ingredients are available at any given time. usually these things at least APPROXIMATE something people normally eat--mayonnaise and breaded chicken for example make sense in the context of a sandwich--but i just eat them by themselves... i don't even have a justification for it.... i HAVE bread available.... i just don't use it....

i imagine being in college would make this even more likely for penny to do, and i have no doubts that eve has walked in on her more than once concocting something absolutely rancid and beyond saving. and she is just. Completely Oblivious to how awful it looks DNJFGHNJH--but hey, what better motivation for movie nights with snacks than finding your pal earnestly scarfing something down that no human should ever be consuming!! B)

this whole behind the scenes just ended up being about my awful eating habits woops.,,, SORRY , honestly there wasn't a ton to talk about on it other than the backstory of why penny's doing this, though....

WAIT I JUST REMEMBERED THE FUCKING. ENDING . NEVERMIND THERE'S STILL MORE TO SAY.

okay, so, that line about penny being adopted/found on a doorstep was a last minute addition to this omake, but a VERY IMPORTANT ONE--it's actually so important to the story that i can't give almost any additional info on it without it being a huge spoiler, but what I CAN say is that we'll hear more about it later in the main story, since i'm sure there's some people who don't read the extras, and also, just cause its mad important!!

admittedly, this is a weird place to include such a crucial piece of information, but i thought it might be a fun sort of like, easter egg almost? for people who scan all the lines carefully...there's actually a lot of things in this story that have been hinted at subtly that we won't see come to fruition for a while--this being one of them!!

i love doing that kinda stuff, ahaha--being able to look back at a story and see something that you forgot about and be like 'WAIT A MINUTE. THIS WHOLE TIME????' is like, one of the best experiences in reading a story for me, so i try to put in as MUCH of that as I can in the stuff that i write!!!

hmm... trying to think if i had anything else to say about this one, and i don't think so, SO i guess i'll call it a day here!!

the next bts post will be for this week's three small updates in one--I think I might do one or two next week rather than one for each individual update, so i have more to talk about, and also cause the updates'll be shorter while i test out daily updates!! if we go back to the other way though, i'll do one for each update i post again B)
