BEHIND THE SCENES #10 - [S1E8.42]: Not Okay

woah!!! we're in the double digits for behind the scene posts now!! epic!! also, hi!! sorry this one is a bit late, i was feeling rly fried in tha brain when i got this update out, so i wanted to wait to write this thing out so it'd read better, ahaha

oh MAN though, i really loved how this update came out!! something about all the dynamic panels and serious action-y kinda stuff was just so fun to make, hehe!! finally getting to make some of the supernatural half of this story is like, bringing me endless joy rn--i'm SO excited for where we're going, both in terms of plot stuff AND all the adorable lesbian things that will happen while it progresses ;D and finally bringing in the other half of the genres is giving me a TON of motivation to keep going at top speeds !!!! fwoosh !!! (thats the sound of me going.)

my goal with this story has always been to make an intriguing plot with lots of heartfelt lgbt stuff at the forefront of it, rather than JUST fluff, cause thats the kind of thing i like reading most!! having the characters experience more than just romance makes them feel more real to me, like they're people you could really meet rather than just like, romantic standins--i mean, i LOVE that kinda stuff too, sometimes you just need some good fluffy romance--but as far as writing goes, i enjoy mixing it together a bit more!! B)

my favorite writing advice i ever heard was that you should make the kind of thing you wish existed, but doesn't--so that's what i'm trying to do!! >:3c sometimes i worry that i wont be able to sell a really interesting plot with a bunch of like... horny romance stuff put on top of it... but then i just think about fuckin. game of thrones and how popular that was and im like. yeah i think ill be fine DNJNFGHNJ

[rem is so cute when shes blushing.... idk why this was her reaction to adrian crying though. perhaps shes just a weirdo LMAO]

-----

okay, onto some more technical stuff!!

to start, i think the biggest change from past updates is how i drew the shape of the panels!! i originally tried to just have the square panels like usual, but it ended up looking a little too like... slow?? static maybe?? i dunno, it's hard to describe--it didn't have much of an action-y feel to it, i guess. but tilting the panels like that gave it a much speedier feeling, which i really liked!! plus it let me experiment with some different poses and angles than usual, which was also really fun B)

another benefit was the juxtaposition between the intense beginning and the slower, more somber moment after the explosion i think got emphasized by the panels being differently shaped--at least, it felt like that to me!! so, it was overall a big success i think!! >:3c i'll definitely be using that concept again in the future, hehehe

-----

[this looks so much more static and boring by comparison to the final product--its wild to me how such a small change can make such a big difference!! art is weird yo!!]

-----

the other thing i wanted to talk about was the background color!! i've been experimenting lately with adding a color to the background of newer updates, like in the alleyway scene, or much earlier, in the christmas updates with the snowy sorta backgrounds!! it's taken me a while, but i think i finally have a solid way to do it now without it taking a long time... so, i'll probably be doing that a lot more from now on!! i think it's good for both tone/mood AND because it helps make it obvious if a page hasn't loaded yet, or if that's just the background being white, lol

-----

[appropriately somber looking!!! very epic!!]

-----

[disgusting!! evil!! the worst!!! ok... maybe thats a little dramatic--but it looks so.... idk... bright !!!! somethin just aint right about it...]

-----

having no color to the background isn't necessarily something i was super attached to, tbh--it was mostly just a time thing, since the way i had been putting panels into the text file before made it so that they looked bad after i added color (specifically, i had to get rid of the white background, so that the color could show through)--but i figured out i can just export the panels as a png file, so i can paste them into the text file and have the color show right away!! its really nice honestly, makes my life WAY easier, and the story ends up looking better for it!! B) i'm always looking for shortcuts like that, ahaha--this shit be takin a lotta time already!!!! might as well speed it up if i can!!

okay though, i think that's all i have to say about this one!! there should be another post up tomorrow with the omake, so, talk to you all then!! ^w^ love u guys!! <3

[i will not elaborate on this, thank you <3]
