Wednesday 2x01 EDITED reaction

Hello All!

I was contacted by an editing company and this is what they made for my Wednesday S2 reaction, please let me know your feedback on the edit and if it's something you think would work well over on YouTube. I'd really appreciate your thoughts. Editing can be a pricey commitment and I've been extremely fortunate so far with amazing people helping out over the years but that option isn't always possible. With the reaction world becoming so vast these days, it's hard for me to keep going and growing the community. Willing to try new things and hoping for the best. Let me know <3

Much love

Dakara x

A huge shout out to my current sponsors in The Mark of Jayne:

Thanks, I've provided feedback to the editing team. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, truly helps. I've been doing a lot of reflecting lately when it comes to the channel and thinking about the future of DakaraJayne. The reactor world currently is very different to what it was when I first started. I'm a very simple gal, I like comfort and chill vibes and I feel like that's just not what the majority want when it comes to reactionary entertainment. I'm happy to continue what I'm doing until it no longer works but I don't want to force anything or 'fake it' to gain traction and number growth either. The only thing I may do is change to 'short' form creation over on YT/TikTok more so than the edited reactions, while promoting Patreon. That would consist of me changing my routine and being more thoughtful about potential clips and saving them in advance though and Im awful at that haha so we shall see. If you ever watch something in my content that makes you laugh or feel its memorable in some way, please tell me to clip it! Helps a lot, cheers AC10

Hey Dak, I had a decent gander at this upload and I do concur with a particular point of AC10's. The transition between your regular layout and the edited pop up is pretty jarring. I think it feels out of place because your edits have always been structured, while lending a sense of comfort. The particular editing style does make it a little hard to focus and takes a bit to get readjusted. Lines and cirles, in the literal sense, in this case. Lol. I could imagine sudden cuts and changing perspectives, being more complimentary and seamless, at least visually, to your existing setup, as something more effortlessly absorbed by your viewers on YT. I like the way things are. But hey, it's always good to be on the lookout for an edge. Happy hunting Hoss!

You know I love you right? I had like 25% this many words before typing it... It's not my fought ok? Ok I didn't watch the whole thing but I gave it a good look. There is something important I see I would like to discuss. (well 2 actually but 2nd is easy). I don't want to hurt feelings here but you asked for our feedback and it's important to be honest. If everyone only shares the best parts and love and excitement with no criticism, then the question wasn't actually answered right? Preface: I found your youtube way back years ago watching your Supernatural reactions. Many of us stayed because of your "Relaxed" and "Calming" demeanor. Your "style" was always both visually and audibly "Soothing" to watch. When I sit down to watch a show after a long day of work I do it to relax, to wind down. Your reaction style matches that well. Many other reactors are very "performative" with a lot of Loud energy visually and audibly coming through the screen... and their editing sometimes reflects that as well. I feel like your youtube edits have captured your style very well. Some would say they are simple. It is a good thing. Except for The Expanse as of late... it's a show that has you anything but calm... the transitions and cuts and audio of your reactions matched your soothing demeanor well. I feel like this edit has lost a bit of that soothing style and I can explain why. To the point: I do not enjoy the split screen to full screen transitions. It is not so much a visual thing but an actual Eye Strain issue... It is Pretty. I like pretty. But I don't like pretty at the expense of addition eye fatigue. There are 2 things causing additional eye strain. 1- When split screen watching you our eyes are center left. When watching the show bottom right. When you go full screen you make our eyes move to center. If this happens every 15 seconds with a 5 second duration before switching back, it may be easier to get used to. The rapid switching over 20 minutes will cause eye fatigue. Again it is pretty... but eye fatigue and a "jarring" feeling is not "soothing". 2- When going from split screen to full screen there is also the changing of Focus Depth. Full screen you are zoomed in closer... So our eyes refocus each time. Far near far near far near. Again the more often the transitions the more eye fatigue over the 20 minute duration. Example: 3:24 - 3:34 we have 7 alternating views in 10 seconds. S-F-S-F-S-F-S Honestly just 3 min in and I decided to stop and skip through parts of the rest to write this. Several reactors have used this style this past year. Some new ones I was excited to find but stopped watching after a couple videos. The longer movies are worse. Some creators I watched for 2+ years and stopped when they switched to this. That sounds harsh but I'm just being honest. 3- Audio Volume Equalization!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is very important actually and has killed many potentially good reaction channels in the past IMO. Lets face it 99.9% of people watch on their phones with their crappy speakers (if you can even call em speakers)... I do sometimes myself. More lately than ever. Especially when I can't fall to sleep. If the shows audio volume is lower than you talking it's OVER. Unwatchable. Cell phones can't be turned up but so loud. If they can't hear the show dialog nothing else matters. I don't have my audio meter installed ATM but if I guessed it would have to be 20db at least lower than your audio. 10db is double the perceived volume to our ears. My personal preference is no more than 5db lower. 5db vs 10db is very noticeable to the audience. If you aim for 10 you end up at 15... Aim small hit small. 20db is pushing the limits of what is watchable on a cell phone. I can't stress the audio equalization enough. That should be step 1 in editing IMO to make a habit of never forgetting. Countless reaction channels have started up having great personality and commentary and editing was good too... BUT the show dialog volume was so low 90% of the audience couldn't hear it, and they didn't fix it fast enough so many left. Even when they finally fixed it 1 out of 5 videos they would forget again leaving sporadic unwatchable episodes. The further ahead they record before posting the more difficult to fix later. You hate me now. Everyone reading this should know by now when I start talking stuff like this I just go. I hope it helps. We share a lot because we care a lot because we love your content. It's different than the rest... no replacement for Dakrya erh Dakara :) I think one of the bigger things that could help growth may be simply more than 1 episode a week. We all love binging shows we love. One episode a week sucked before streaming. We've all been spoiled with not only entire seasons "airing" at once THANK THE UNIVERSE but also the sheer availability of previous shows at the click of a few buttons. Waiting a week these days could push people to seek other reactors to finish a season you got them all hyped watching with intent to circle back a few weeks later and may or may not follow through. I've done that myself. Conclusion/Recap... 1-Not a fan of rapid Split Screen Full Screen transitions because of eye fatigue and loss of your signature Soothing style. 2-Big fan of Strict Audio Volume Leveling between your dialog and the show dialog. I'm so not going to proof read all this before posting... BYEEEEEEEEE!!!
