Hello All!

MY HEART! It's just too much! Seeing Peter and Olivia struggling with this loss is killing me!! Walter trying his best to stay strong for everyone but holding onto Etta's perfume to remind him of her - STAAAHP, it hurts. I can definitely see a change in Peter but I'm sure even more so, now he's got this chip in his neck! What were you thinking???

Much love

Dakara x

Comments

😮‍💨 This episode is a rough (amazing) watch, i won’t delve too deep into it because i’ve already seen some amazing analysis in the comments but i do want to highlight a couple of scenes. The first one is the Walter and Olivia conversation about grief, “The pain is her legacy to you”, such a great line and the fact that it comes from Walter is just perfection, i love that he is trying to be a father figure to both Peter and Olivia and help them through the grief and not around it, this scene is just gut wrenching, Olivia is truly holding on by a thread but Walter urges her to stop shutting off that part of her and embrace that grief fully because that is the only way to begin to heal, the acting even for Fringe standards is off the charts in this one. The second scene i want to highlight is for sure the RESIST poster reveal, god i love that scene so much because it’s almost like Etta herself is speaking directly to Olivia and it’s so cool how the poster almost seem to appear out of nowhere when in reality they were there the whole time, the Etta poster is probably my favourite image from the show (tied with the white tulip) it just perfectly encapsulates what the show and season 5 specifically is all about. I think i’ll speak about Peter and his journey this season more in today’s episode but his reaction is so perfectly in line with his character and how he handles this type of devastating emotions, he either runs (but he can’t do it in this case) or he lashes out and while i do believe that over the seasons he has grown up a lot this experience has put him back in to that hell and it’s perfectly understandable because Etta meant everything to him, in his mind she represented a second chance for the Bishop/Dunham family and now she is gone…. God that last scene with Olivia begging Peter to come home while he is pretty much letting go of his humanity in order to avenge his daughter is heartbreaking in a million different ways, this two just cannot catch a break ever 😭😭. P.S. Please Dak never worry about being the only one getting emotional, if someone gets to season 5 of Fringe and feels nothing when stuff like this happens to characters that they’ve been following for almost a hundred episodes then they should have stopped watching a long time ago, this season works so well primarily because you’ve come to know/love this characters so deeply.

Yes to all of this and i wholeheartedly agree that it makes their dynamic/arc this season so interesting even though it’s so painful, as weird as it may sound in season 5 i felt closer to Peter and Olivia than ever before in show, this is the season cemented amongst my favourite characters in all of fiction. (alongside Walter) Great analysis!

In my opinion, the Peter and Olivia dynamic is so interesting in this season. This story of these two people who love each other so deeply and also are so perfect for each other and yet they also have such different coping mechanisms. Olivia tends to bury stuff, bury her emotions, and more or less sees the bigger picture. Like Olivia in this season is really focused on saving the world and is sort of using that focus to blur everything else out. Anything that would detract from the mission is mostly being thrown to the wayside. That makes that Olivia scene with the home video even sadder because Olivia is trying to cope in a different way and the whole scene is just so devastatingly sad. Peter on the other hand is much more emotional in a way. He can be very stoic but also he has angry side to him especially when someone he loves is hurt. You see that emotionality when Walter shoots Olivia in S4. Walter is all like you need to move aside so that I can save Olivia and Peter is understandably very upset and angry and is just focused on the person he loves. You see that now with Etta as well. When she was just missing, Olivia was focused on saving the world and Peter was focused on finding Etta. And now it's a similar thing as well after Etta's death. In general one coping mechanism is not better than the other. I'm not saying that Peter is making a great decision here but I do feel so much pain and sympathy for him. He lost Etta once and now he's losing her again. Olivia calling Peter, crying, and begging him to come home and Peter is in so much pain that he's not thinking straight. My heart aches for both Peter and Olivia.
