Please don't make me cry like that again though guys, thanks! Great episode, can't wait for the next 5 seasons of this show...*SOBS*

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reaction 7x12

Comments

Fab reaction! I first watched this as a 20 something bloke who was not a big Xander fan. S6 finale and this episode put the icing on the cake for me and put Buffy over the top from excellent to Best Show Ever because it showed me value in a regular bloke who is not super likable a lot of the time... I've always believed in the value in everyone and it was so nice to see that reflected in a show like this. You're reactions are doing great justice to this show and as a new Patron I'm looking forward to seeing how you grok a whole load of the other great content!

I just had to say, I have watched Buffy, from start to finish maybe 11 times and seen it from start to finish through reactions maybe another 10 times and I love it more each time I see it. I see new things, I feel differently about some things, I feel differently about some characters. It is such a blessing that I can watch this show, which was a masterpiece the 1st time I saw it, and enjoy it even more the next 20 times I watch it and for you, seeing this for the 1st time, I hope you have the same experience, so that for the next 30 years you can re-watch this show and continue to love it and enjoy it.

I can't tell you how refreshing it is to see someone react to this show and get Xander. 🥰 The irrational hate for this character makes me so sad, because Xander is so representative of the human experience. We always measure ourselves against our peers and sometimes struggle to see our true potential, but we try and that's so important.

Why does andrew grow on me each episode must be my inner nerd lol

I really like what appreciation you have for the moment when the end of a show you care about is approaching. I know that feeling well, including for Buffy when it ended its original run in 2003. You're right to get emotional, and it'll get worse as we inch closer. ... I had to like the bit of self-commentary by the show when Willow and Anya don't actually understand the whole "same blood" thing that sort-of-but-not-really explained how Buffy could die in Dawn's place in the 5th season finale. And, hey, Oz got a mention! 🐺

I love Freaks and Geeks. And I love Sarah Hagan in it. Definitely a criminally underrated series. However, it is a little bit of a spoiler to mention how many episodes of Buffy she is in, as Dak has no idea whether Amanda will survive to the end of the series or not… or she may run away or who knows at this point, right?

StephanieB

This episode highlights the character vulnerabilites Xander's feeling of unimportantance, Willow"s lack of confidence in her abilities and dawn's fear of being left out because she is not special.

Christopher simeon

gawd i always tear up at Xander's speech in this :'(

It is friday :C but I am sure that has nothing to to with me being in Australia :D

I believe it is run through Faith or there would've been another slayer called when Buffy died in season 5. Which the show hasn't done. Would've been a cool idea, but I think that's why it's mostly thought of that the slayer line is through Faith.

Corey

A great, emotional episode with some nice camerawork and editing, particularly with the going back and forth between Buffy training the trio using a live vampire and Dawn & Amanda fleeing and trying to fight the vampire at the school. I had completely forgotten that Amanda turned out to be the other potential and it was so cool how she immediately became a mini-Buffy using all those moves and ultimately slaying her very first vamp. I can't understand how I forgot, because I was very familiar with Sarah Hagan at that time for her portrayal of Millie in the series Freaks and Geeks (1999-2000); it's one of the best portrayals of high school I have ever seen and it was criminally cancelled after only 14 episodes. Honestly, that would be a great series to react to because I'm pretty positive you've never seen it. Have a think. The scene at the end with Xander and Dawn was excellent and one of my favorites in the series. I got a little tear in my eye and then of course glanced at you and you had one running down your cheek. I almost, ALMOST, let that tear fall. By the way, I also have a box of tissues sitting right next to the computer. Oh how I wish there *were* 5 more seasons... Thanks, Dak! We are nearing the end and I don't like it either!

Brian Dworak

Also, it's often said by fans how the slayer line runs through Faith rather than Buffy, but I'm fairly certain that's never established on the show. In fact, that idea is contradicted several times in this episode.

We briefly met Amanda in 7x04, and I feel there was a bit of a missed opportunity to develop her character in those early eps (and maybe give Dawn a proper schoolfriend too). A good episode though. I may have my issues with season 7 but it really does have its moments.

PaulC

it almost feels like this could apply to the fans and how they feel about xander and dawn as well... they get left at the bottom

Bisibia

I love this season too. I love Buffy's leadership, I love the claustrophobic, climactic vibe we've had so far. It's been like an intense bottle season but with lots of new characters. Only 5 tops it for me.

Ed Green

Seconded. Think I've said this before but: ensemble cast, strong relationships between characters, fantasy setting with reality background. All of which Buffyesque. Plus it's the spiritual successor to Lost but without the widely contentious later seasons.

Ed Green

Scenes like this are why Xander is considered the heart of the group. He is extraordinary too he risked his life constantly without having any powers and he saved the world multiple times like the season 6 finale when he saved the world and his best friend with just his words and unconditional love.

Dak: can't wait for the next 5 seasons of this show... LOL I love it so much. Your reactions brighten my day, Dak. I would love for you to react to Once Upon a Time. I think it would be right up your alley.

Raven Dark

So yea.. that ending scene. That has to be one of the best bits of Xander. Soo wel put and Dawn deserved every bit of it. How many episodes have there been, where Dawn is in the books, finding what demon they are dealing with. Dawn really has stepped up in this season, but as Xander said, never really in the spotlight. Then with all the extra potentials and everything Buffy has to deal with, that does go a bit unnoticed. Except for Xander :). What Xander said is absolutely true, and he's played key roles throughout. He so often is the support pillar that Buffy needs, and I dare say that without him things would have gone sideways real soon. Not to mention Xander saving willow at the end of S6. Also a special shoutout to Kenedy's comment when they were picking weapons. That was a good slick chuckle there ;). I also can barely belief we're so far into the season, but also... i just love this season. I found it interesting when Dawn brought the comment that Joyce made. Buffy wouldn't want this for Dawn, she would want something that she sees as "more" or "Better". Or atleast with a better prospect of a future. I'll leave it there and look forward tot he next one :).
