God I wish this happened.

2023-09-04 16:28:45 +0000 UTCBack in the day, I went to a comic convention called Wizard World Chicago where Joss Whedon was the main guest. In the auditorium Q&A he was asked why he killed Tara. Then he told the story, I believe for the first time, of the way he had planned to bring Tara back. Buffy was going to do something BIG, and the powers that be granted her a wish as a reward. Anything she wanted. The episode would be about what she should wish for. No more vampires, no more Hellmouth, world peace, whatever. She discusses it with everyone throughout the episode, but can't decide. Someone finally tells her it's her wish and to just wish for whatever she wants. At the end of the episode Buffy walks out of a bedroom and runs into Willow in the hall. She asks "Do you like my new shoes. They were expensive, but I really wanted them and now I have them. Willow's like " What? Are you crazy? You could have wished for anything and you wasted it on shoes?" Buffy says "Don't be silly" and walks off. Willow then just continues to the bedroom and turns the corner and sees Tara standing there. When the story was over you could hear the sobs from all over the auditorium. It was great.

2023-08-30 15:48:37 +0000 UTCWell, that was nicely done! You seemed to cover everything, and made good time doing it. 👍🏻 I'm quite game to see you tackle the movie, and although I'm not usually up for rewatches, in your case I think it'd be different.

2023-08-30 02:49:21 +0000 UTCI was aware of the show from the start but didn't get into it until later, in part because I had fond memories of the movie and thought the idea of a spin off show with a different cast seemed a bit naff. Which in retrospect is pretty hilarious, but there you go!

2023-08-30 02:47:54 +0000 UTCOMG the Buffy movie! I saw it when it first came out, and absolutely loved it. It's like this gloriously kitschy campfest, and I was so there for it at the time (I love me some good campy kitsch fests). I was so excited when they announced they were doing a TV series of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and was so annoyed that they cast a different actress in the role to the one who played Buffy in the movie. But then of course I actually watched the show and immediately went, 'Okay, we're doing things a little different here, I love it!'. Best way I could describe Buffy the movie is 'season 1 on steroids' LOL.

2023-08-30 02:09:58 +0000 UTCThe movie is worth a watch. As long as you understand that it isn't like the series or even necessarily that good, it's still interesting to see the origin story and it has quite the cast, including several before they were famous actors!

2023-08-30 01:12:01 +0000 UTCAmber has said in interviews that she was called into the office by the showrunners at the end of season 5. She was told that they had great news and that they were going to kill off Tara during season 6 to trigger Dark Willow. According to Amber it was supposed to have happened earlier in the season but the writers kept delaying and delaying it, as it was hard for them to do.

2023-08-29 21:29:32 +0000 UTCJust now watching Dak watch the end of the S7 premiere, I got a huge wave of unexpected comfort just from seeing Clare Kramer and George Hertzberg again as Glory and Adam (the latter for the communal, hopeful-newly-independent-young-adult vibe of S4, not because I like him as a villain, which I don't). Even though I rewatched episodes 1 and 2 on Disney+ 2 days ago in preparation for this, I still wasn't expecting that. Every rewatch is a new discovery. And there aren't many shows where I'd have rewatched them on my own because a reactor was about to reach them.

2023-08-29 20:03:04 +0000 UTCWith Amber Benson leaving the show, yes Tara's death was already planned I believe before season 5 had even ended, but last year Amber broke her silence on a situation that was happening on set at the time. She indicated that she had been having issues with someone involved with the show, and that things had sort of come to a head so at that point she was kind of ready to exit the show and put things behind her. She hasn't named the person, and she did say they did eventually make peace and it sounds like thing's were eventually okay with whoever it was. Amber has been pretty open about the toxic environment onset that was created by Joss Whedon, which leads me to believe it's not Joss Whedon she's referring to when she talks about having issues with someone on set.

2023-08-29 19:59:41 +0000 UTCGreat wrap up of the season. Season 6 is not one of my faves, but it has its moments. The main reason for no cross overs is mainly that the shows are now on different networks. Buffy on UPN and Angel still on WB. I think that is what I missed with Buffy S6, some nice cross over storylines.

2023-08-29 19:16:11 +0000 UTCI get the sadness of (eventually) not having new episodes to watch, but as I'm sure you've come to realise by the number of OG Buffy fans still active in the fandom, the show is endlessly rewatchable and gets better and better the more you watch it, in my opinion. The show as a whole is just one big comfort blanket. When I need a quick pick-me-up, I watch "Hush" or "Once More With Feeling", and when I need a good, cathartic cry, I watch "The Gift" or "The Body". The soul-crushing, stomach-wrenching pain of watching that episode the first time wears off, but it doesn't lose its impact. And after season 7, you can watch other reactors, if that's your thing. It's always fun to see someone experience Buffy for the first time and see how they react to key scenes and emotional or funny moments, and then there's the anticipation of them getting to your own favourite episodes. Other than that, I mostly steer clear of the fandom, though, as offensive as that may sound. There's just too much bickering that taints the experience for me, and as there's been something of a revival, Buffy now has an intergenerational audience, which isn't bad in and of itself, but it can be like two armies of gatekeepers clashing on the battlefield. Last but not least, I've thoroughly enjoyed binge-watching your reactions and catching up since I've only recently found you. I especially like that you don't go out of your way to outsmart the show or to analyse everything that's happening to pieces. When the reactor lets their guard down and just has fun with the show, it's more enjoyable for everyone, I think.
